I've seen that video, and others. IT'S NOT EXPLAINING HOW THE NUMBERS ARE DETERMINED. I know the solution. I want to know HOW the solution was determined. I am expressing my frustration as a gamer the inability to understand how the solution was determined!

never mind I figured it out. I was so convinced it had something to do with 2 dimensional vs 3 dimensional (based on the perspective apparatus) that I overlooked the simplicity of the solution.

We're happy to hear that! Sometimes, the best thing you can do is to put the game down for a bit and try it again later. There is always a solution – a logical one. But many times, our minds are way too complex to see the simplicity. Enjoy the rest of the game!

Having the same problem! I found the numbers courtesy of a walkthrough, but can't figure out HOW the walkthrough came to them. Someone enlighten me?

I'm still puzzled about one aspect of the "boiler puzzle". I understand that you link the molecule shape to the symbol using the flying machine model, and you get the number for the top section by counting the molecules of each shape in the "pink potion" (I'm colourblind so that might not be the colour)... but WHAT is it that tells you which symbol goes in the number 1 position, which in the number 2 position, and which in the number 3 position in the lower section of the boiler? I can't seem to work out that link.

You basically work it out in reverse. You work out the numbers of each item, and the only possible positions fot those numbers in the top part determine which symbol lies in the bottom.

Did everybody see the paper airplane contraption with all the symbols on it?. I think it explains what symbols go with what tube/valve on the boiler. I'm confused though how that correlates to the machine at the top of the stairs with the lever that you have to find.

If you're talking about the sums, it's the number of those shapes present in the completed solution.

As for the symbols: You know triangle is solution 3 because you can examine that one directly, and you can also examine the barrel on the bottom floor to get the shape associated with solution 1 (I think the dodecahadron). You then know 2 by process of elimination.

When you examine the pink fluid you get the quantities of each part of the solution 8 Tetrahedrons, 4 Dodecahedron and 2 Octahedron.

From the model aircraft in the viewer you'll find each geometric shape besides it's alchemical symbol.

Starting from the top of the furnace you have to arrange the wheels so the totals make 2, 4 and 8. There is only one solution that does this. Moving down you have a quantity for each column and you know know the alchemical symbol that matches that quantity.

Hope that clarifies things.

If you have the empty flask, you can examine the liquid from #3 and see it's composed of triangles. And using the glass eye while standing in the bottom of the stairs, if you look at the side of the tank, you can see it has the Octahedron symbol

Adding this to the paper plane thing, you know that the liquid 1 is the Octahedron, associated to the chair-like symbol - and the number in the examined liquid was 2. Then, the third liquid is the triangle, with the tied-bandana-like symbol, with 8 'molecules' in the liquid.
This leaves the 2nd liquid to be the squares, with the headless lizard-like symbol, and the number of them is 4.

It took me a loooong time to get it, and the puzzle that follows is again a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ that I can't get yet.

I could not figure it out after hours of frustration...Hence I went to the only option I had - which was crazy however worked. For each of the bottom option (there are 6 options of 3) I went through all the possible wheels option - I set all the dials to be 3,3,3 - started with the bottom one - and after I came back to the #3 - I rotated the upper one on notch - and then another set on the bottom one and so on until I hit the jackpot - sounds crazy I know - but this took me half the time that it took me to try and figure out the correct combination.

This does not mean I did not like the game - far from it - thing is that the logical solution had many ways to go - hence it was too hard for me to get.

As my late papa was saying - the one not working with his head - has to work with his feet...fingers in my case...:-)

Basically, the symbols in the pink potion were 8 triangles, 4 dodecahedrons?, and 2 diamonds. So the combination of numbers you needed was 8 4 and 2. Since 8 was the hardest to get I just tried every option that got me 8 and then did the next option that gave me 8. Once I got 8, 4, and 2 I then used the flying machine in the perspectograph to see which symbol was for which shape. Then you match the symbol for the shape with the correct number of 8, 4, or 2.
