Command Ops 2 Core Game

Command Ops 2 Core Game

Synopsis of DLC’s
Hi Folks,

I have only just come across Command Ops 2 and it seems to have hit a sweet spot between the detail of Gary Grigsbys turn based game and something like Paradox EU4 with a real-time aspect. How this game has remained under my radar I don’t know!

I have played the free base game (great idea btw) and naturally want to progress to some more scenarios. However after reading the store page descriptions they only give top level detail such as number of scenarios and force’s involved.

I then searched the forum and have seen people ask “what DLC” should I get..a very open question that in turn naturally gets open responses, such as what theatre are you interested in.
Would someone be able to provide a little more information on the DLC’s?

For example I’m interesting in Highway to the Reich Vol.1 and I would like to know;

• Of the 13 scenarios how many days do each last – I prefer longer battles to put my mark on them

• Number of units under command – so I can see if the DLC has a good mix of battle sizes

• Difficulty of each scenario for each force – for example scenario X is difficult as US forces (this will encourage new players too)

• And anything else the community thinks new people should/would like to know for each DLC.

Thank you in advance for anyone that contributes or indeed points me in the appropriate direction.

Check out this thread[forums.lnlpublishing.com] and take a look at the 6th post. It has a basic scenario overview of some of the modules.

Highway to the Reich is a great module, for the moment it is my favourite.
In it you'll have the "big three" as in Eindhoven, Nijmegen and Arnhem. I've played each of them as Allies and they are really good. They all span nine (!) days and have higher than average/high units counts. Then there is the big elephant in the room: "From the Muese to the Rhine", which is basically the Nijmegen and Arnhem scnenarios linked to eachother. It is a monster of a scenario with 881 (!) units. I've actually yet to play this, but whoa... ;)

Since the LnL forum requires you to login (and registering is very fiddly, as I've found out) here you go:

All American over Nijmegen / 4d 10h / 379 units
Arnhem Second Wave / 1d 17h / 103 units
Big Chill Breakout / 3d / 239 units
Breakout from Joe's Bridge / 1d 4h / 204 units
From The Muese [recte Meuse] to the Rhine / 9d 9h / 881 units
Joe's Bridge / 2d / 55 units
Keeping the Island Afloat / 5d 3h / 453 units
Molenhoek Counter Attack / 2d 12h / 92 units
Mook Right Hook / 5d / 374 units
Operation Garden Final Phase / 3d 11h / 287 units
Red Devils over Arnhem / 9d 9h / 612 units
Screaming Eagles over Hell's Highway / 9d 9h / 366 units
Terror of the Tyne Tees / 2d 10h / 217 units

Can't say anything about the difficulty. When I play a scenario, I delve into it deeply, which means I haven't played most of them yet. From this package, I've only played "Joe's Bridge" and "Molenhoek Counter Attack" as the axis so far. Molenhoek puts you in an interesting challenge, as you're supposed to gain or at least hold ground with infantry against an armored force. I suppose it's rather easy if played as the allies.

All scenarios take place in September 1944 and as they're located in or close to the Netherlands, the terrain is almost totally flat (but polder terrain and patches of woods put limits on LOS and manoeuverability).

Perhaps it's worth mentioning that Joe's Bridge is one of the best beginners' scenarios.

I concur. Joe's Bridge was the first scenario I played through completely (as Allies). Straightforward objectives and a nice mix of units.

Yes, the axis has a harder time, I think. From what I can remember, I really had to rely on that unit of StuGs (if I remember correctly) and place them very carefully in an enfilade position behind a lottle wood in order to have a chance of checking the allied advance. Holding the bridge itself was nigh impossible as you lack anti-tank-weapons at the beginning of the scenario. I also launched an infantry night attack (from the woods in the west) on the armored allied bridgehead, but to no avail. Can't remember the result I got, I think I only made a draw.

Thank you both for your help.
Got HttR and will begin with Joe's Bridge as the allies.
Its seems a clear and concise scenario…let’s see if the axis keep it that way..:steamfacepalm:
