It is a bit of a challenge but the biggest hurdle is the Pyrohydra.

That boss is so complex.

Yes, the hydra is by far the thoughest fight in the game in epic mode. Final boss is kinda straight, just buy a lot of coffees and keep buffing defense and casting the audio wind attack to get healed.

I found some late random fights very hard, even harder than final boss.

There is great advice on the Hydra boss in here, some of them from yours truly who absolutely ♥♥♥♥♥ on bosses using Evasion builds, so if you all want to ♥♥♥♥ on the boss as well you can take a look through the discussions in here.

Good luck and have fun!

I beat the Pyrohydra and I gotta say it was actually way easier than the Protector. My strategy for Pyrohydra was:
Matt equips Officer Hat, Casual Shirt and Swordbreaker (For it's dark typing)
Natz equips Pope Hat, WM Dress and Nimbus (For Fire Resistance and increased Magic Power)
Lance equips Military Helmet, RM Jacket and Shadowblaster (For it's boost to dark moves)

Use Kyun, then Ion, then Cleaver on the Healing Head (Czars) (this should take it to about half health). Then keeping chipping away at the healer head until it's almost dead. Take the time to equip Dragon Killer (Electric Sword) and Thunder Core (Gun). Then attack the dark poison head (Abyss) until it's almost dead as well. Ignore Czars, even as he heals (use a dispel move if desired).

Finally, attack the Fire Head (Blaze) after equipping Blizzard (Ice Sword) and Deep Blue. Try to finish off the heads one at a time now that they are all low health, prioritizing damage from Lance over other forms of damage (Natz is primary healer, Matt is the secondary healer who uses items (he gets a 2x buff for items with his Casual Shirt). Ideally, all three heads should go down within 2 turns of each other to prevent the summoning of backup.

This strategy worked like a charm the first time I tried it on epic, but do note that I had maxed out all the listed equipment beforehand in order to get the maximum benefit (such as randomly getting the Slime Bunny, it's super important for my strategy because then I can focus Natz on buffing Lance's Magic Attack, Blinding the boss, and other supportive actions including dealing damage).

Yikes, I'm still stuck on the mammoth on Epic, I hadn't considered how bad the Hydra would be if I manage to get that far. There's a good reason that the Legend achievement has such a low amount of holders.

Try Poison applications, that mammoth is stupid weak against poison... Poison weapon on Matt with Unleash absolutely wrecks that mammoth

This is fantastic advice, thank you! Any advice for the Protector? That's where I am right now, 3.5h in! (I had already done a previous run on Normal, where I got all achievements except for the difficulty-related!)

I liked to playthrough the whole ebf series once a year but then the death of flash happened.

I have played through 3 and 4 multiple times.

Epic battle fantasy 3 is when the monolithes were at their most hair ripping op state.

But with the right strategy they are manageable.

Except the cosmic monolithe that one is the hardest monolithe to kill in the whole series.

Man I remember this game... Was pretty active a few years ago in this community page now that I think about it, helping here and there. Personally I felt EBF3 was busted on both sides. Cosmic Monolith was a pain if you weren't prepared for it, but at the same time you had Evasion and Evasion boosting buffs, as well as the Blind debuff. You couldn't get hit at some point, or at least rarely got hit, so you had pseudo-immunity, which they did fix/remove in the later entries... Akron is easier than he looks though, and I would say the Protector is harder than him considering the state of your characters by that point compared to Akron. Lvl 28+ and Akron is a joke if you prepared right.

I still stand by what I said back then though! Hard mode is harder than Epic mode, which is hilarious and I don't know why either... Maybe the mentality swap is what does it for me?

Do have fun though with the game! It's worth every hour spent on it, speaking from experience.

Hi, thanks for replying! I managed to beat Epic mode yesterday!!

The protector wasn't super hard, I think I beat it on my first try, though I cannot remember which strategy I used. I think using Natalie's Kyun combined with Matt's Unleash.

Had some trouble with the monoliths, which were fixed using the appropriate gear: dispel protection for ancient monolith and dark protection for cosmic monolith + spamming syphon to make them skip turns!

Then I beat the hydra on the second try at lvl 29 and Akron on the fist time, at lvl 30!
Pro tip: Poison everything that isn't immune/healed by it. The status effect is incredibly powerful on epic, and enemies can't get rid of it (except final boss). Two of the three pyrohydra heads fold like a house of cards when you poison them.
