Even in my massive stores that have so many cashiers and self checkout counters I still get notifications that x number of shoppers left without buying due to full queues. Losing them doesn't amount to much so I don't really care if I lost 15 sales that day when the store is still bringing in 118,000 in net sales
I don't generally stick to any specific sizes, I just build them as I desire, what I have learned however is to not build roads right next to the stores but instead leave some space in case I need to enlarge the store for more cashiers or more storage or products.
After opening the 4 roads and doing some advertising all my stores get flooded with customers to where some leave without buying anything.
