Event type, Vehicle class, Track (and area of track where it is occurring), and how many vehicles are nearby.
After playing around in the main farm area it seems most often that the frames drop when textures in the background start to pop in (shadows, trees, etc.). There's a blur that occurs at the bottom part of the screen when I get anywhere over 15 mph. There is also a line of textures right around the bottom of the screen that randomly keeps trying to fully load its detail while the area just around this line is giving off the blur effect. So far, it doesn't matter what track I'm on or which bike I'm riding. The frames are pretty bad right at the start with 15 other AI racers but even after I get far beyond them, there is still quite a bit of stuttering. If I had to pick a part of the track it happens the most often, I would say coming out of a somewhat sharp corner.
I hope what I've written down helps. It's kind of hard to put into words what exactly I'm seeing. Please let me know if there is any more info I can attempt to provide you.
Other details:
According to my PS4 I have the latest update for the game (2.80)
I have a regular PS4, not a pro.
Thanks for the info. We can roll around the Flying Moto Ranch and do some performance profiling. No surprises about the start gate. We have been investigating some "smart" solutions for rendering and controlling that many riders in close proximity since before initial release, and will continue to do so. Similar issue for sharp corners.
The blur line is a bug in a framerate stabilizing feature. We will try to address it in the next patch.
30 FPS? Oof! For any racing game on any platform that is unacceptable! I mean, didn't ATV Offroad Furry run at 60 FPS on PS2, or am I misremembering? I've even tried looking for 60 FPS gameplay, but all I found were videos of ATV 2 running at 60 FPS in PCSX2, an amulator, not original hardware. I also saw gameplay footage of ATV 3 and 4, (the latter of which I own), running at 60 FPS and can confirm it does on original hardware, but those games weren't developed by Rainbow Studios. (And they also kinda sucked because they lacked open environments and freeride modes, but that's a different subject. ;) )
The point I'm trying to make is: why 30 when you can obviously hit 60 on much lesser hardware in the past? Especially for a racing game where bad framerates can easily break the game. Monster Supercross, (Another game, another developer), also suffered from low framerates that tank at the start when everyone's on screen at once. (Also, more shade, the game is all it says on the tin, just supercross, no nationals, no baja, no FMX, no fun...)
I've been a fan ever since Motocross Madness, which I didn't even know back in the day was also developed by you guys, but seeing how striking the similarities are, I consider MXM 1&2 and ATV 1&2 part of the same universe with MX vs ATV Unleashed bringing them together, so my points come from having enjoyed the series for as long as I have. Heck, I still have my copy of Unleashed for PC, which ran at 30 for whatever reason, but the track editor saved it IMO. I still play it sometimes!
