How much combat is in this? I played through it just now.

The chainsaw is easy to find in the cave after you across the river running out to sea. I never found the knife, but there is a rusty revolver in the cargo ship wreck in the sandy bay after you see the ghost on the left hand path. It does not work, perhaps a teaser left by the devs. But you can only find it if you trigger the ghost, the one one the left of the bay, not the one furthur along on the right, that one does not count.

Actually if you do find the tyre iron right at the start, you are well good to go Foreman

Also if you go around behind Jakubsson's bothy, next to the room where Donnelly has been camping out you'll see a stump where apparently Jakubsson used to kill chickens. Shine your flashlight into the shadow in the corner and there's a nice big axe that will come in handy if you stumble into one of the "wrong" caves. If you have the axe when you're down there, it takes fewer strikes to bring down an attacker than if you're just packin' the tyre iron or (worse) Donnelly's camp knife.

When the alien ship grabs me off the lighthouse, you have to camp their till nightfall, I can't free both hands to get off the table. Should I try kicking?

That one is tough! I think the only reason to do it is to get the achievement. I never bothered because it takes so long. Maybe if you stay completely still, the saucer will miss you? It doesn't much matter, once you're on the saucer you have nowhere to go anyway so you might as well just lay there and die.
