Im lucky guy, i have played older Dear Esther in my 3d vision rig and its a breathtaker :), when landmarks edition was released i buyed ( in gog srry gabe!) and unlucky the 3d support was gone :( . As most times the great pc community come to help and now i can enjoy again this amazing experience in VR :D, all of you can!!!!!
just download this https://github.com/Eusth/VRGIN.Template/releases then extract the content of the rar in the instalation folder of the game, move DearEsther.exe over IPA.exe, then launch steamVR and launch game in the new direct access created by the plugin in the Dear Esther folder. Then just enjoy :) im sure you gonna enjoy a lot, VR fits like a glove here and if you love the game before, you gonna love even more now :).
BTW the plugin is generic, must work with most games using unity 5.0 to 5.5 (tried firewatch too and works great too with a few tweaks) and someones with 4.6-4.7 but with more tweaking needed.
Regards.

It looks amazing! There are some glitches with certain effects, but it's 95% working. It has the feel of a actual proper VR release that is in beta and has a few bugs, rather than the glitchy/choppy/buggy/hacky/unpleasant results I've gotten trying to use things like like VorpX.
It's awesome, being able to do things look out the chimney of the bothy. When I discovered an otherwise impossible to see hidden message in the 4th Act, I actually gasped!
Okay, so how did I get it working:
I followed ArkanHell's link and downloaded the VRGIN.Template executable, extracted it to the game folder, dragged "DearEsther.exe" onto "IPA.exe", started SteamVR, started the game, and...
...it doesn't work...
Yeah, sorry, the Steam version of the game doesn't seem to work. Checking the "vr.log" file, it looks like the VR starts properly, but then goes black because before the real game starts Steam does some sort of pre-game license check and that causes the VR to fail before the real game starts.
So, I took a gamble and bought another non-Steam copy of the game from Humble Bundle (because I already own about 4 copies of the game, why not 5?) and tried that.
That failed too, but for a different reason, namely that I had to go to the properties of "IPA.exe" and set it to run as administrator.
Then, finally, it started. At first it seemed a bit dodgy, because it apparently expects you to already be sitting in position. If you aren't, the menu will be off in space wherever your headset was. So you have to get ready, peek-out and click to start, and quickly re-position. The menus are in a 2D wrap-around panorama, which made me worry it was going to be like the SteamVR theatre-mode.
But no, once the actual game starts it's full-on VR! So awesome!
I would imagine it can even be improved with tweaking, since this was just using the VRGIN default template settings.
About the issue with menu when starts, after start the game first time in VR, VRGIN creates a VRSettings.xml with some menu related tweaks ( distance, curvature, mirror screen mode, etc) and the in-game shortcut list.
