Hi! Sorry for the trouble. I'd very much like to get it fixed. Which boss is it that you're beating, and then it says you were killed?

Also, are you able to start a new game, quit to the title, and then continue? Your current save may be from a previous version.

Just tried to "Start new run" and immediately "quit to title" then crashed to desktop before getting back to the title. Is there a location i can manually delete saves from previous versions and see if that fixes anything?

I've discovered some issues with saves, and am fixing them now. I may be able to hotfix these fixes in so you don't have to wait for an update.

For now, you can delete your save by going to:

C:\Steam\userdata\<your Steam id>\520660\remote\savedgames

There should be a file there called "quicksave.eqs". Just delete that.

Just put out a hotfixes that fixes these issues. If you start a new game, you should be able to quit to title/quit game and then be able to continue.

If you're still having issues, let me know.

I just got home. I went ahead and deleted my saves anyway just in case. The preliminary result looks positive. i was able to start new game and quit to title and continue, all without a crash. Cheers, thanks!
Update. While I didn't crash at all which is a huge win, after playing a game until i was slain, when I died, it took me to the main menu and "continue" is grayed out and it says i have no savegame.

Correct! This is a rogue-like, so once you or the Beacon are killed, that's the end of the run. Saving/continuing your game is meant to be used to save your game if you need to leave or something, and then resume it later.

Now, that being said, we're working on a new "custom" difficulty setting for the next update which will give you all sorts of options. It's certainly not the intended way to play the game, but we do want to give people options for how they experience the game.
Ah, so no persistent character growth or advancement? I always thought after runs you could go back to the nebula and upgrade and buy new equipment etc.

Right. The stuff you buy is for that run only, but when you unlock something in the shop, that item will then have the ability to appear in shops/item platforms.

We're thinking about some character upgrade stuff through the XP system (the way you unlock the characters). Previously, a lot of mechanics were locked away with that system, but it made the game seem lacking early on. We kept characters being unlocked this way, and being able to unlock perks for them would be a fun incentive to keep playing without making the game too boring early on.
Thank you for the detailed response. For my two cents, particularly for a single player game, lack of progression would kill it for me. The same thing over and over without new turrets or skills or better stats to show for it gets dull pretty quick. Cheers, and keep up the good work.

Certainly! I think we're still looking for the sweet spot. You don't want to lock away so much that the game seems boring initially, and you don't want to have too much available in the beginning so it's too overwhelming and there's no sense of progression. There's still a lot of items that have to be unlocked, but I think now there may not be enough to unlock through straight up XP progression. I'm sure we can find some fun, rewarding things to include there in the near future.
