Online isn't exactly "alive" as "mainstream games alive", but there are still people playing it and newcomers getting it. Basically most of the matchmaking goes through Discord and friends, and you'll have to ask for matches rather than wait for them.

Also, -STRIVE- will likely be a very different game considering what they've shown and said so far, but some mechanics and gameplay essentials will almost certainly transfer over to it. So if you like what you're seeing, I'd say to give it a try.

It's a shame without crossplay Strive will be as dead as this within half a year.

I've only fought against the 2 same korean players over the past 2 months. They are way too advanced for me. Lol.

Crossplay is really essential for the longevity of fighting games online.

It wouldn't solve much, since the state of the playerbase should logically be pretty much the same on consoles. So cross-platform play would mostly be useful at launch, then give access to a marginally bigger playerbase across platforms, but it wouldn't solve the problem of the playerbase shrinking over time.

Again, if you want to efficiently find matches, asking on Discord or adding people on Steam is the way to go.
