Is Rev 2 more active?
I've been playing the game using the free trial, did not buy yet, but when after some combo practice and stuff I tried to go online, well I saw this:

Lobbies are rarely used (mostly because they introduce some extra lag) and most players prefer Player Rooms. Also yeah, Rev 2 is a bit more active, but you can still ask for people with Rev 2 to switch back to Revelator (there's an in-game option for that).

I'm kind of worried, the game sits at 300 players on average according to Steamcharts. With the game being free to try this is quite surprising. That and the fact that in DBFZ it's sometimes tedious if even possible to find a match while the game is way above in term of player numbers (and even then you find the same 2 guys in ranked for 2 hours).

300 players on average is fairly healthy for a niche fighting game actually. It just means you have to ask people for matches through Steam or Discord, but you'll most likely find an opponent quickly, and perhaps even on your skill level.

Yes. Rev2 is what people play. It's an expansion to Revelator so it shares the player count, but I can assure you it's all Rev2. "A bit more active" is a deep understatement. Except from some other lost innocent soul like you, everyone is playing Rev2. Also, people use Player Rooms, not the big lobbies, because the are more efficient (the big lobbies has long sync up times before each match).
I don't know if it's included in the free trial (it better be though), but make sure you have downloaded the Rev2 DLC and have activated it in the in-game options.

Rev2 is not present in the free trial, which is why there is nobody online, but a few "lost souls" who probably also got the game through the free trial. They are from all around the world so the connection between us would be close to horrible.

I'm not gonna lie, I still have doubts when it comes to online activity, but the game is just too good and the sale probably to rare to let the occasion go.

Damn, that's a big goof up from ArcSys. The sale is not that special. Slightly cheaper than usual, but the Rev2 bundle with no extra DLC (currently a little over 10€) regularly goes for about 14€.

I said "a bit more active" because I don't know the actual numbers and don't play regularly at all (I'd have to git gut before that), but yeah, the latest iteration is always going to gather the majority of the playerbase.

Tried making a lobby 5 PM EU time once and two people joined after about 5-10 mins at most and we could play smoothly for an hour. Then there was an error and I left but I think one hour was more than enough and I had a blast.

Bottom line, most of the modes are barren but making a lobby or seeking players out on Discord servers can get you matches easily.
