Should I start here or with a previous installment of guilty gear?
So I played the ps2 guilty gear XX accent core plus. I was wondering which guilty gear I should own now... For story and gameplay.
Should I get this while the community is strong? Should I go back and play the oldest guilty gear on Steam? Will I be able to find a good community for ths and the previous games on PC? I would immedeatly buy, but with the price being steeper than a mountain on steroids, I am more cautious. Should I buy the previous or this one?

As a fan of the saga i would recomend playing from the first guilty gear from Playstation, to get in touch with the story, but you can always look at a wiki and just buy revelator, or wait for REV 2, you will save mutch time this way.....so, don't bother to play the older ones if you just want to pick on a fight.

Its only worth playing the newest release of each generation, you should only bother playing ac+r and Revelator

you're not going to find ac+r matches on steam without setting games up, revelator has a small amount of PC players atm so just start with Rev.

Go with Revelator, if you want people to play with. Almost no one plays the previous ones online anymore.

Start with rev. All the mehanics bloat from accent core got removed, and is treated as if it never even existed, so anything you could learn playing accent, like how to time your 2 frame false roman points, is simply of no value in Xrd, Rev, or Rev2.

Rev also has a much, much lower entry barrier, and lots of features that are focused on removing/fixing things including, but not limited to: no one except Ky using overdrives ever, for any reason, false roman cancel knowledge and counters being mandatory, even casaul Sol play devolving into the super awesome minigame where you must perform character specifc counter hits to build 'clean hits,' and if you can't do this, then don't even bother, Slayer being a character that's made of sub systems to regulate the game's own systems, and having sub-sub systems that let him bend the rules laid down by his own systems and the core game systems, Ky vs Potemkin matchup being just as fun as it's been since reloaded, but now you gotta remember that Ky has access to a further 59867678686 specials, about 19 force breaks, must pretty much every combo that results from a counter hit with his OTG 222HS thunderstrike, or he won't get the traditional knockdown advantages, Johnny going back to X levels of over the top, and very technical players doing what they always do when Johnny has access to RCs, fast moving sigh that allows instant movement, and someone deciding that he needed to get all his level 2 mist finers upgraded to have a 1 frame false roman window. In fact, Johnny has about as many FRCs as Ky does level 4 attacks, which means way too many to keep track of, but since all his normals got significantly more unsafe, playing Johnny means you must learn all the 1 frame FRCs.

Rev isn't a steeply costed game. It has about 4 games worth of soundtracks, on top of its base one, 8 or so hours of voice actor interviews, a 7 hour anime movie that looks way better than every actual anime released in the past 5 years, and has the best graphics of all fighting games made, period, which will never be topped by ANY of the competition, either in the west or the east, because they lack the skills, money, time, and mad genius of Daisuke and his handpicked team to produce such quality with so little manpower, money, and time, features the absolutely most detailed and accessible tutorial so far seen in any fighting game, right down to walking you through every character's every attack, and providing an 'FAQ' that essentially answers all the questions that new or returning players have, in the precise order they ask them, but still forces you to perform before it lets you proceed, and since it primarily focuses on reloaded staples, learning the game and getting your first guds is a very organic process. Also, actual big resolution support, MSAA, and more polygons, class, and time put into the backgrounds themselves than Capcom seemingly put into their entire game.

Xrd was cheap because ARC got the rights to GG back, and wanted everybody to play it. It's not 30 bucks because it's a budget game. It's 30 bucks because it's a celebration, and a nod to the legit diehards who stuck with the series when it was on its huge break. Xrd itself also has a huge amount of content. It's like, man, you get, like, value for your money, or something. Also, ARC has so far given a discount to people who purchase a new release while also owning older ones. If you buy in the first month, you also get access to quite a lot of pretty rare bonus things, like Daisuke's live performances in Rev. I don't remember ever getting any kind of deal on anything from Capcom. SNK, sure. Capcom insists that I need ring 0 rootkits to be allowed to play their game instead.

Just start with Revelator honestly, It tells you the backstory of -SIGN- so you don't miss out on anything really. Plus, you can check the story on the wiki so you don't miss out on anything like people said before. But yeah. This game is a little bit easier to play than the rest. And also smoother. imo.

The bundle for -Sign- is so cheap right now, I'd suggest reading a wiki for everything leading up to -Sign- and start from there. Set the sucker to the easiest difficulty and single round matches. Collect character endings while at the same time develop a feel for Xrd mechanics and then watch the story mode when you're done with the game. Don't worry. There isn't exactly a Marvel vs. Capcom 2 roster of characters so breezing through the arcade mode will only take a few days assuming you're not one of those guys who treat gaming like it's a part time job. If you are that kind, you'll kill everything in -Sign- in about a day. Then head into -Revelator-.

The only reason I suggest starting with -Sign- is because it is quite story heavy plus they're practically giving it away in the current sale. It's worth that price just to get a proper introduction to the Xrd story line.
