About to buy the HORI Real Arcade Pro 4... Does it work for this game?
So I can't get my old Mad Catz Tournament Edition SF4 stick to work on my laptop so I'm in the market for a new stick. The computer reads it as a controller but no amount of fiddling can get it to read any inputs from it.

I've been eyeing the Hori mentioned in the title on Amazon and it seems to be a good stick for the price ($150) but I've seen some mixed things about people and their sticks not working sometimes. And I'd really rather not download third party software to get my stick to work. So my question is, does this specific fight stick work for this game out of the box? If not, any other suggestions?

I have it, and no problems here (excepted my terrible execution).
But, before buying a new stick, have you tried to :
1) see if your other Xinput (xbox) or Dinput (approx everything else) controllers are working ?
2) plug your stick on a different USB ?
3) use x360ce ?
4) reinstall the game ?

I have the Hori Real Aracde Pro 4 Kai and it works without any problems.
Steam controller and my Xbox controller work. I have tried plugging the stick into all 4 of my USB slots. I've tried several games and even just the default controller test from the control panel doesn't pick up any inputs. The stick used to work on my old computer but that was also windows 7, not sure if it's the different OS or the laptop.

I'm really really nervous about downloading stuff so I haven't tried the x360ce. I feel like I always get a virus with that stuff. But I should see some inputs before that should work right?
Thanks wafflekone!

Instead of getting a new stick you could always but a new PCB for your current stick. The Brooks ones are easy to install and are really good. That would save you $100 at least if you can't get the stick to work.
I have no idea what a PCB is but I just did a search... is this what you mean? https://www.amazon.com/Arcade-Game-Controller-Interface-MAME/dp/B00F1YQ3DI
I use a gaming laptop.. would I have to open it up to install this?

You might need to download drivers to get it to work. The original TEs if I remember correctly needed drivers to work properly on pc.
Do you know what drivers I'd need? I went to the madcatz website and the drivers there are only for newer sticks.
Welp, just incase anyone reads this and was in a similar situation as me. I bought the HORI stick and so far it's working beautifully on my laptop. Plugged it in and was able to play SF IV with no problems, downloading GG now.

Don't ditch your madcatz stick, they'll be psuedo collector's items since MCZ went belly up.
Nice. I'll sell it on ebay in 50 years!

Old MadCatz TE sticks have issues being read by new USB ports. Either get a new stick or if you have an old USB port it will work.

The HORI RAP4 Kai supports PS4, PS3, and XInput PC natively out of the box. I have one myself and am loving using it for fighting games. I'd definitely recommend it, especially since the stick you have seems to be like it'lll be a collector's item at some point anyways. That way, you won't be wearing it out too much.

Edit: The only games that don't support RAP4 Kai are games that don't support controllers. You would use PC mode for XInput and PS3 mode for DInput.
