October 22 Update Notes

Oct 21

Smoother Diving

Moving around the seabed is smooth now: the game only draws the scenery that is actually on screen, so swimming no longer causes frame drops.
The recurring micro-stutter is gone: the brief hitch that kept coming back at regular intervals during a dive no longer happens, so the frame rate stays even.
Big schools are lighter: distant fish keep drifting smoothly without dragging the frame rate down, so crowded water holds up better.

Danger You Can Feel

Attack ranges are off the water: aggressive fish no longer paint a circle around themselves.
Your diver senses them instead: short pulsing lines rise around your diver on the side each aggressive fish is coming from — they brighten and grow as it closes in and fade as it leaves, and up to six can warn you at once.

A Safer Return

Continue now waits for you: continuing a dive pauses the fog reveal and shows Press any key to continue, so nothing can hit you while the screen is still clearing. Any key, controller button or click resumes.

Broken achievements

The following achievements seem not to work on the current version: * Dragon's Remnant - Defeat the Abyss Dragon normally * Dragon Trophy Hunter - Defeat the Abyss Dragon normally 3 times * First Light Home - Complete your first regular dive successfully * Low-Oxygen Return - Return with 10% oxygen or less * Three Safe Returns - Complete three regular dives in a row * The Abyss Does Not Wait - Let a dropped Abyss Core expire Unless I did anything wrong when trying them. I've completed many dives, defeate...

October 10 Update Notes

Oct 10

Fixes

Fixed an issue where quitting the game after a dive had ended left "Continue" without effect on the next launch, so starting a new campaign appeared to be the only option. Continuing now resumes the campaign with fish coins, equipment, backpack contents and progress retained.
The continue button now displays "Continue Campaign" when no dive is in progress.
"New Game" now requests confirmation before an existing save is overwritten, with "Keep Progress" selected by default.

September 30 Update Notes

Mission Screens

Every dive now opens with a briefing: a CRT typewriter briefing — mission, difficulty level, clearance and return condition — plays before you drop into the water.
Crossing the final wave gets a proper send-off: the outro is now a typewriter screen with a big CONGRATS line and its own buttons, instead of a separate results pop-up.
Dying has its own screen too: the death pop-up is gone. Death fades through fog straight into a MISSION FAILED typewriter screen.
Loading progress now fills smoothly instead of jumping ahead in chunks.

Wreck Salvage

A wreck can be searched up to 5 times per dive: search the hull in place and every completed search opens a fresh batch of salvage points around it. The wreck is only searched out after the last round.
Salvage now feeds the Abyss: each salvage point you pick up adds +10 Abyss Resonance (capped at 100). The deeper you strip a wreck, the better the haul — and the worse the company.
Hauls come back as items: salvage catch goes into your backpack and is handed over through the reward screen, so you always see what you pulled up.

Capture Combo

Chain your catches: land a catch within 3 seconds of the last one to keep a combo alive, with a combo bar tracking the count.
Combos pay out: from 3 catches on, a broken chain settles a bonus payout, and the 3-hit and 15-hit marks each trigger their own event.
The combo banner is cleaner as well — bold outlined numbers and HIT counter, with event letters moved to the left of the screen.

First Dive & Tutorial

The first-dive guide is now one straight line: catch the marked tutorial fish → settle it at the supply point for fish coins → press Tab to open the backpack → spend the alloy and coins on your oxygen helmet.
New campaigns start with 200 fish coins, so your first enhancement is not a grind. This is only written on a brand-new save — continuing or re-diving is unchanged.
Skipping the guide still hands over the starter gear and the alloy, and now shows the reward screen and equips the gear for you.
Fixed the tutorial supply point's hold ring getting stuck.

Supply Point Repair

Damaged supply points in the Twilight layer can be rebuilt: pay the fee, then hold the ring for 30 seconds while a fish frenzy closes in. Leave the ring and the repair fails — and the fee is not refunded.
Starting a repair now asks for confirmation first, showing the cost and your current balance, and it will not start when you cannot afford it.

Quality of Life

Docking at the submarine now opens the backpack workbench, the same as a supply point.
The "Obtained" reward screen is cleaner: item cards no longer print their names, icons are smaller and the hint line is gone.
The extra status line under the oxygen bar is gone — the HUD is back to just its gauges.
Fish now use one colour per depth band (orange in the shallows, purple in the mid layer), so the layer you are in reads at a glance.
Low-oxygen warnings are now translated like the rest of the UI.

Fixes

The harpoon no longer misses targets right in front of you.
English button labels on the results screens are no longer clipped by the right edge.

Feedback Wanted: Oxygen, Pressure, Progression and Exploration

Hi everyone, I’m collecting feedback for Deep Drift: Signal Below. This thread is mainly for gameplay feedback, suggestions, balance thoughts, and anything that felt confusing or frustrating during your dive. I’m especially interested in these questions: Is oxygen too strict, too forgiving, or about right? Does pressure feel fair and understandable? Are upgrades too expensive, too cheap, or paced well? Do you understand where to go and what to do? Does exploration feel interesting enough? Are enemi...
