Is local hosting a thing?
I tried this game around a decade ago (2014? 2015?) and was turned away by the strange server hosting situation... Creating a lobby wouldn't actually make a lobby, it'd just tell the existing dedicated servers to open up a room for you.
This was concerning because it implied that there was no way to actually run a server on your own... which means the game's multiplayer functionality would only last as long as those dedicated servers keep running. No LAN or anything, the game was essentially online only.

Fortunately, those dedicated servers are still up and running (nice!), but I am wondering, is hosting a server locally a thing yet? Something akin to source engine games, where a person can host a server, online or not, and friends can connect via IP address.

In short, is the server software available in any shape or form?
It's incredibly important to have access to server software for a game like this; it means the game won't just die overnight one day. Back then people didn't necessarily realize they were buying a product with an expiration date, and I'm wondering if this problem has been resolved since then.

The 'dedicated servers' are almost just matchmaking servers. One of the players in the room will be the host -- you can notice this if the hosting player force quits their game and everyone lags out like crazy until the host migration kicks in...
