A Warning Regarding 4K to Potential Customers
I've been battling with this game to get it to display in 4K (3840x2160) for 45 minutes now. It's simply not an option. First, I'd like to point out that I play games in 4K on my setup all the time. I've yet to run into an issue, and we're talking about at least 30 other titles played at this point. Redout is the first game that simply won't work in UHD.

Changing desktop resolution, changing scaling, deleting INI files, modifying INI files, I've been down every possible road and checked out every discussion about the issue I could find. Like many before me, it simply will not work in 4K.

The issue seems to stem from the game reading your monitors EDID, which is often wrong in cases with Windows 10 and 4K displays. Many 4K displays report a "native" resolution of something other than 4K to Windows, and that's what Redout uses as its maximum supported resolution when playing.

This issue was brought to the team's attention a year ago (as far as I can tell by reading old threads) and as of today remains unfixed. So, until they figure out how to deal with that (as nearly every developer before them seems to have done), this game will remain on my wishlist but not in my library.

Just figured potential customers looking to use this title as a graphical showcase would want this information before pulling the trigger. Game seems absolutely fantastic, but I'll wait until I can experience it the way it should be experienced.

You mean the demo or the game?
SludgeSlave Nov 21, 2017 @ 3:37am
The demo.

Does the demo not function in 4K, whereas the full game does? That would seem like a really, really bad situation, since the demo is how many potential customers will form an opinion...

The demo is from version 1.0.4 which is basically one year ago. We are at 1.5.1 today.

Pretty sure it has been fixed now.

Oh. Word. Well, I guess I'll buy the game and delete this thread. Do I get a 98% off coupon for troubleshooting this year old unpatched demo? : )

*maybe* you got us to update the demo at some point before Christmas. But no warranties on that either :P

So, I bought the full version with most of the DLC. The issue is definitely not resolved. Some notes that might help you to troubleshoot this...

- Tested on a GTX 1080 Intel system and a GTX 1070 Ryzen system.

- Both televisions are Sony, both are different models, and both systems have no issues with other 4K titles.

- Borderless windowed mode works in 4K, but also prevents HDR from functioning.

- Setting the application to ignore scaling in Windows doesn't help.

Let me know if you need any further info in the future!

uhm interesting.

and you are not happy with borderless mode because it degrades the performances of your pc?
SludgeSlave Nov 28, 2017 @ 1:02pm
Borderless doesn't allow for HDR. HDR is highlighted, but doesn't function. Looking to do both HDR and 4K. We were able to do this before with Shadow Warrior 2, but we don't have any other PC HDR titles to test besides yours (there's not many).

Uhm... What is the exact model of your TV?

On the GTX 1070 system, it's an XBR-55X850D. On the GTX 1080 system, an XBR-65Z9D.

I'm not sure if this will fix the issue, but since you mentioned issues with which resolution Windows reports as "native", have you ever tried out tools like Custom Resolution Utility (or similar)? https://www.monitortests.com/forum/Thread-Custom-Resolution-Utility-CRU

I specifically use this to tame TVs that report bad modes by default - the changes are non-destructive EDID overrides that can be easily reverted if something goes wrong (more details in the thread - see the Getting Started section in particular).

When using the utility, the first resolution in "Detailed resolutions" seems to be what Windows uses as the "native" resolution - see here:

You can use the up/down arrows in the bottom-right corner of that box to rearrange as needed.
