Xbox controller no longer recognised?
Hi guys, I have an xbox 360 controller that worked in this game and it's suddenly stopped. I've previously enabled big picture mode, setup my gamepad in bpm, I have Steam Overlay enabled...

Any ideas? I mean, it was working and it just suddenly stopped. It makes no sense.

Silly question: are you sure it's still recognized in Windows?

Yeah, I got it working. It's this new Steam control thing. In Okami my controller would only be recognized as an Xbox 360 controller. In this it will only be recognized as a Generic controller. It's totally bizzare. TBH I find the new Steam control thing more of a pain in the arse than anything, especially since I bought this controller because it has swapable xinput and dinput.

Since they've started this, yes I can play GTA 3 with a controller no problem (with a mod), but every other game that fully supports controllers is just a nightmare now.

Thanks for the help anyway man.

I have this problem also. With the latest update I cannot get my Xbox One controller or PS4 controller to work. Previously I had to disable all options other than "Generic" in the Steam controller settings. Doing so would allow the Xbox One controller to work but nothing would get the PS4 pad working.
Now, no matter which option is selected, none of my controllers work in Redout. They work fine in other games. It seems Redout doesn't play nice with Steam controller settings panel. I have tried reinstalling and it hasn't helped. :steamsad:

Have you tried setting to generic? That worked for me even though in other games I had to set it to Xbox 360. It's a silly system. This "auto detect and apply to anything" doesn't auto detect anything, I now have to keep switching between settings lol!

Sorry for the delay in responding; I had sort of given up trying to find a fix to the issue. I have tried enabling just the GENERIC option and leaving everything else unselected but this doesn't work. It is so odd, as I don't have this issue with any other game on Steam. Some don't seem to like PS4 controllers, but I have yet to find another game that won't work with my Xbox One controller. I even tried a wired 360 controller; it allowed me to move up down left right on the menu but not select anything or go backwards. Having put almost 6 hours in, between playing with keyboard (yuck!) and trying to figure out this problem, I have accepted defeat and put in a refund request :(

When you applied the Generic or wahtever setting did you make sure you also click apply or whatever it is? You have to save it separately and register it. It's the msot stupid system I've ever heard of tbh, but I did get mine working.

So - I just got the game and after playing with my Xbox controller previously I started the game today to find it not working. I googled solutions and found none that worked. This is one of the threads that came up in my search so I'm posting here in case others follow the same route. What worked for me was the following.

Right click on the game in your steam list and choose "Properties".
At the bottom there is the "Steam Input Per-Game Setting"

This was set at "Use your global Steam Input settings (None)"

I changed it to "Forced On"

The Xbox controller worked fine after that and even when I changed it back to the original setting it still worked.

I thought I'd post this solution for others who might have the same problem. If you do I hope it works for you.

I might add that I had only played the game in VR (WMR) up until the problem came up so maybe that switches something which causes it. Anyway - I'm off to play...

Red that is FANTASTIC! Got my controller working again!
Many thanks for dropping in to update this thread - totally random that I checked out the page today (was looking after seeing this game go up on GOG).

Yes, that helped me too. It looks like they added that setting to the client just recently.

Thank you for this hint. After changing this my formerly unrecognized old Logitech Rumblepad was recognized and works fine :-)
