Since this post I have fiddled with permissions and uninstalled and reinstalled the game. I have tried playing it in VR and the desktop version.
Since reinstalling, I cannot boot any version of the game now. It either crashes Steam at launch, or gives me a message asking me if it is OK that it launch with the following parameters "-vrdisable".
Of course, if I try to run the VR version, the parameters reflect SteamVR.
Please? Anyone?
All my other games working fine, and not seeing others reporting issues like this. Can anyone at least help troubleshoot?
If there's any other info you need from me to help resolve, please let me know.
Now that I've had a taste, I'm super eager to get back in and play! :)
Every time I click OK, it duplicates the parameter. What you saw in the pic is after I clicked OK the first time. If I pressed it again, you would see the same parameter 3 times.
So frustrating. Just wanna play. :(
Super weird. Not really sure how to help, we never experienced anything like that.
Have you tried removing the Vive from your system, and see if it works normally without VR?
I'm way in over my head. My next suggestion would be "format c:\" :|
I'm starting to think Redout was the catalyst, but not the cause of the issues. I'm not too tech savvy, so I only now learned how to access and read event logs.
Bought another VR game that worked mostly, then it eventually hard crashed Vive and I got an error related to UE4. After that specific error, all of my games (which worked well previously) are starting to experience random crashes anywhere between 5 minutes of play to over 3 hours of play.
I'll keep digging and will keep this thread updated just in case someone encounters a similar issue in the future. Hopefully I find a resolution without formatting C.
Gamer dad here. Formatting C means not playing for a month or more. :p
Of note, they did spy Viveport services issues, but could not define them. We also learned that, when attempting to restart my system, Win 10 says all of them were "unexpected" for some reason.
The Viveport services issues have been logged since it launched in October, so we are hesitant to say that's the cause.
They have advised to format c, as well. Windows 10 and its updates were re-installed yesterday. Steam and Redout were installed this morning, and the desktop version appears to be working now.
Going forward, I will test Redout as I re-install new software and peripherals, and will make one more final post if I find the culprit of the issue.
Crossing my fingers this still works when I re-install the Vive tonight.
