I bought this game just after release after following its development for a while, and I regret not refunding it while I could. This incomplete "game" is nothing but a poor excuse for a cash grab masquirading as a passable mario party ripoff. The final version is full of obvious bugs and crashes at random. I gave the dev time to fix the bugs, which was a mistake because the patches never came.

I can see a lot of potential in this game, but don't expect a fun game yet. There are a lot of bugs I've found with only playing 15 minutes.

- Changing resolution while playing makes the world disapear, only tiles, players, trees and the HUD is still visible.
- Changing resolution doesn't redraw the HUD, but will change the position for the mouse.
- Changing resolution makes cards black and unable to use them.
- Some route choices are really difficult to make because there is something in the way (tree or hill). I couldnt find a way to show the whole map.

Is this game worth buying? At the moment, no just leave it on the shelf unless you want to help the developer make it better. In my eyes this game has a lot of potential, but it just isn't that much fun yet.

Within 12 hours of posting this review Chickenbuilds contacted me to get the specs of my PC so he could find and solve the problem. I've full trust that this game will reach its full potential one day.

Being a big fan of the Mario party franchise I really wanted to find a game on steam that was similar to that games format.

When i first found cards of chaos i was immediately curious it seemed like an interesting take on the Mario party format with the use of cards. But in its current state its pretty empty only two boards and I've only gotten like 6 different mini-games which are rare by the way. There all to simple and really not worth it anyway none of the mini-games involve the players actually interacting with each other, Mario party had games like this but it also had a wider verity of mini-games. Of course I wasn't expecting this game to be as good as the Mario party games but it was still disappointing.

Unplayable. The cards don't even work wtf.

Cards of Chaos is the kind of game which you are going to play when you are with friends. The drawstyle and the funny characters make this game unique. Although i haven't played it online yet, the offline mode is really entertaining. The way you can use the cards to "hurt" other players is really well made.
I love the minigames that are available.

The game does need some updates, but as it's still in early acces that's not a problem.

Just try the game out. It's already playable as seen in the trailer. It can only get better!

Here's my review, it's not super positive but more positive than negative.

The gameplay is essentially MarioParty combined with cards. Making a board game into a video game isn't unique, but the way they mashed a video game, board game, and card game is impressive. It plays well and has a unique feel, although similar to MarioParty.

The biggest in game problem for me right now is that the AI (which I'm forced to play with unless a friend is with me since there's no one online) is pretty terrible as far as decision making goes. For example I'll be three spaces ahead of him and use Statue (AI can only move 1 space next turn) and then the AI will use Stomp (which does damage to any player they pass that turn), so obviously thats a dumb move that a real player wouldn't make. Additionally, in some minigames the AI will be so bad they run out of time in a game that time is basically irrelevant in (Pizza Slicing) and in others they'll complete it as quickly as humanly possible (Platformer minigame with blades).

I do have to touch on the price, also. I really think this is severely overpriced, and that's going to scare away a ton of potential buyers. I got this in an IndieGala Monday bundle for $2.99 that had 10 other games in it. Definitely worth it. If you lowered the price to $5-$8, it would gain much more popularity in my view. In conclusion: there is no way this is worth $15 nor it will be without another 2 years of developments. My suggestion to the developer: This game is in early access, put a price tag that's lower now and say that it will be raised later. The price tag is just way too high for this stage.

Overall, this review may not sound positive but it is an entertaining game to play with some friends or even the AI. I expect to get a few more hours logged, especially if there are updates, and hope to see more players online.

I just didn't expect this game to be this fun:
a great mixture of a board game and a card game - i'm not even sure if there is another one like this at all!
last board i seem to have played was monopoly far before i got my first computer; last card game i played... it was same long ago i just can not remember - and this one - i'm just lacking words how brilliant the concept is:
on one layer you have the card game where your cards fight opponent cards, on layer on top you have board game where you starve to be the first on board to get the rewards and on top of these two layers you have a mini games layer where you need to be the quickest, the smartest to outperform your co-players.

though i might be describing the game in a too complicated way its just three layers of fun combined each influencing another so that you just do not know what to expect the next moment - and - what is more - game has endless possibilities of further improvements as the developers can simply drop in more cards, more minigames, more rewards on board (or, otherwise - traps) - and i'm sure the developers surely will.

now i understand i may sound too fantastic but with this concept of a "game in a game" just imagine
having instead of a quick short built-in mini game a race in a racing game your opponents already have in their libraries or a deathmatch in some fps shooter or a flight in a flight simulator in or running a quiz - this way "Cards of Chaos" can just host whole steam library inside without breaking any licences or permissions as the games are already purchased - this is how big is a potential of this game!

You are able to toggle the tutorial messages.
There aren't alot of resolution sizes available.
There is a fullscreen mode, windowed mode and borderless mode available.
There is a master volume slidebar available with a procent.
There is a music volume slidebar available with a procent.
There is an effect volume slidebar available with a procent.
You are able to toggle the controller.
You are able to make your own character thingy.
There are stats available.
There is a level editor available.
You can play local or online game.


I think the best way to describe this game is "Mario Party". You play on a board game and roll a dice. Your character will move over the gameboard and events could happen. You are able to use cards which you will get in each new turn. These cards are able to damage/hinder or help yourself and you are able to use multiple cards in a single turn. A minigame could be happening if 4 "minigame cards (Purple outlining cards)" has been used. A new day will also start once a minigame has been played or after 4-5 turns. Each character has a set of lives and once they have been ran out, you will have to skip some turns for recovery. You are able to skip your turn which could be useful to avoid incoming traps so that other players might step on them.

No difficulty settings for the AI.
There are card shops.
Weird music.
Low graphics game. (childish)
You are able to skip your turn. Lol.
Minigames has A mini tutorial message. Like just a really small one which isn't well written at all.
Calming game.
Only has 2 maps.
Doesn't have alot of minigame variety.
It could be better even if it is not that terrible.
