Is it possible for a newbie to play this game without a guide?
I like to go into games blind and not have the experience ruined but after 20 mins with My summer car it just screams follow a tutorial

Is this the case? Am I missing something? Are there any mods, or advice to play this blind? The Reddit sub has a cool map replacer that shows how to build the car like a tech manual.

Any other stuff like that or general advice?

unless you've built a datsun 100a before, no. you can play the normal game without guide but not building the car.
to be fair, the datsun 100a is mechanically an extremely simple and 'typical' vehicle - i'd argue that a typical petrolhead would be able to just about get the car together. indeed i managed to get it running w/out tutorial or wiki, but A) i worked part time as a mechanic in high school, so it's safe to say i'm a car geek, and B) this was after a few restarts (first game, didn't adjust camshaft gear so pistonslap, i knew instantly it was done. 2nd game, died to green car while walking, permadeath. 3rd game ended because my friend on discord told me to piss on the fusebox, turns out electricity doesn't like this lol).

the only things that'll really get ya are finding the wheels, and getting all of the bolts (particularly on the brake lines) - the wheels are hidden in some pissoff abandoned house, with an angry (and lethal) wasp nest. and most of the bolts you can see, it's just a matter of finding the size, but with the brake line and the fuel tank there are many bolts, some of which are damn well hidden.

so is it doable? absolutely. but it requires an autistic attention to detail, and a significant helping of pre-existing knowledge for context. would i recommend it? absolutely, if you want a challenge - but unless you're a gearhead and you've worked on cars IRL (not car mechanic simulator, not the same thing trust me), it will be agony.

the fun in MSC comes from not necessarily building your car, but the maintenance of it. i would argue that, again speaking as someone who worked in a mechanic shop, my summer car is the single most realistic and accurate depiction of real life automotive maintenance for an old car. and for that, i applaud toplessgun!

for me the only tuning where I have to use a guide is the camshaft tuning so the tuning is not that hard

You can use the actual Owner's Workshop Manual for the Datsun 100A (https://archive.org/details/datsuncherryowne0000hayn). That is what I did when I first played and it was a blast. Frankly, something like it should be in the game.

I've already started looking stuff up on the wiki and I'm going to use the flag car guide thingy from the pinned post on Reddit
