excessive CPU usage
ram is normal, this game absolutely bombs my CPU now. it's an AMD ryzen 5, it's been fine for years, what's changed?

That is strange. running the game in highest settings, in 4k with a locked 60fps, and my i9 9900k is hardly breaking a sweat, less than 20% usage for MSC according to task manager.
That's because the most demanding part of the game is the physics simulation, which is all done on one CPU core. So if you for example have 4 cores and core 0 is being run at 100% load, core 1 at 20% and core 2 and 3 on 0% load you'll only get an average load readout of 30%.

This is also why older CPUs tend to overperform compared to newer ones, and why Intel CPUs seem to have an edge over AMD in this game, since intel usually runs a higher single core clock than AMD and older CPUs tend to also have higher core speed but fewer cores (amongst other things). My 2500k from 2011 is just barely outperformed by my current 8600k.

are you using any mods?
mazdatribute Apr 18, 2022 @ 12:26pm

hm try verifying the game perhaps?

MSC has always been one of those games i could max out the settings on, my computer's from 2017, has 16 gigs of ram and a higher end nvidia 1060 GTX. the CPU is a ryzen 5 1400. now it eats 80% of my cpu in game and 30-45% on the main menu, regardless of settings.

I was having the same problem, I gotta turn off my virus protection (malwarebytes) while the game is running and it goes back to running like butter.

windows defender wasn't causing any issues from what i can tell.

I get 30 - 25 fps using my Ryzen 3 2200g with the integrated graphics (I still need a 3070, the prices are too high!)

How do you see how much cpu usage you have while playing? I want to see how much mine uses.

on windows you probably can just user afterburner or task manager

yeah, i was looking in task manager. if you're on win 10 just click the more details button on the bottom if it isn't maximized already. and pin it to your taskbar for easier access

That's completely normal for this game. The games code is being held together with hopes and prayers. Install MOP mod and FSMO and it cleans it up substantially. I get about the same average FPS as you and i have a 2009 Alienware Aurora.

Install only MOP because FSMO causes some weird bugs. That's because this game is cpu heavy but i feel like you can get so much perfomance potential with older bad cpu and it cannot work properly with new better ones.
