Controller issues

I have been playing for over a year with controllers. First MSI (xbox) and now a PS5 dual sense. Both have worked fine until recently. MSC doesn't detect the controller inputs when other games do, and then it might work, and fail again. Today I drove the boat with it, built the car for a while and went back to controller to ride the moped and nothing happens.
Anyone else with similar experience? Remapping does not detect anything.

I've updated the motherboard. Too early to tell but, so far, so good.

I just started playing MSC and I've experienced the exact same detection problem with an xbox 360 pad. In my case, it works until I alt-tab out and then re-enter the game, then it drops the input (with one caveat mentioned below). I don't have this problem with other games. Curiously, if I run the game in windowed mode this problem doesn't seem to occur. Even weirder, I have my right stick set to mouse movement (so I can look around) thru steam's controller config and this input NEVER drops even when the rest of the gamepad goes dead.

i would bet it's steams native controller support.
i don't have issues using a ds4 with ds4windows

It's failed again. MB update made no difference.

I tried DS4 windows without success. All the buttons and Steams right stick to mouse works, but MSC is not picking up any analogue inputs.
I'm still open to persevering with DS4 though, just when I'e got the time for it.

There has been a small development.
I don't know what caused this, but the analogue inputs to MSC seem to be working fine, but the buttons and right stick to mouse do not. Checked all the settings on steam etc.. I tried using Joy2Key as well, same result.
If I unplug the controller, and reconnect I lose everything, have to restart the game.

^ I should clarify, I can map buttons directly, but the mapings from steam don't work, so I can't duplicate actions on controller and keyboard.
