Try this.
First:
Make sure your controller is on and connected.
Bring up your Steam Browser.
Go to Steam.
Go to Settings.
Go to Controller.
Enable Steam Input for Xbox Controllers.
All other controller setups disabled.
Install Xbox extended feature support driver ... because why not? (I am not sure this does anything.
Next:
Go to your Library.
Find My Summer Car.
Right click and select Properties.
Select Controller.
Enable Steam Input
(The input list should have your xBox controller ticked Enabled, per-game override.
Select Controller Configurator and observe the default layouts for your controller, edit if necessary.
Finally:
Boot My Summer Car.
Start your save.
Press ESC.
Reset To Defaults. Yes.
Driving Controls.
Assign Steering.
Assign Combined Axis.
Don't map anything else until you can confirm your steering and throttle/brake function appropriately.
Continue down the rabbit hole.
(This is the furthest I can take you. And it assumes your controller is set to defaults and programs are not over mapping each other.)
Thanks. I ended up using joy2key after all to set the right thumbstick as mouse to look around while driving.
The weird steering input you see in the video where it jiggles when I would steer left or right was due to having steam input enabled. When I disabled steam input for the game, I was able to steer left and right properly without any odd behavior.
I was only using steam input to make the right stick act as mouse. Somehow enabling steam input seems to have caused double input registration.
