What kind of game would you describe My Summer Car as?
For me, it's kind of like a simulation of life. It wasn't intended to be when the game first came out (at-least I don't think so), but each update brings more elements that add to that kind of life-simulation aspect. Doing jobs, having a girlfriend, keeping your house in tact, interacting with humans, police, all of it. On top of that, you are a guy who likes cars, hence the parts magazine in the garage. The game has such a special charm to it that I love, and I want to hear what you guys think of it.

For me: My Summer Car is a really well implemented realistic game, when i first started playing the game back in 2017 or 2018, i was interested to the dials in the cars that you need to look at it and click LMB, RMB or Scroll, because back then there were almost no games like that, you just have soulless keyboard inputs like for lights L, for horn H etc. I don't know might be kind of weird but that was the thing that got me interested for the game like it was a such freedom that you can look freely and adjust your seat sitting with enter, You know if you tried the H to Horn thing in the game character will smash the window (You know there was no "BREAKING WINDOWS..." screen he would just smash it) and if you tried M for Map he would flip the bird kinda shows the game is not like that. As we all know after that, games like Mon Bazou and the Long Drive (Long Drive still uses keyboard but still you can use somethings by looking and clicking) used the look-for-use style, which they were the games sampled from MSC, actually good games go check them out.

But Now, it's the reality behind the game, it has it's own style, no big company-ish marketing, near to no for-kid youtubers ruining the game, no reality binding stuff like having sports cars with shiny paints and neon lights.

Topless said "This game is not like those games, this game is about realism" he is right about that.
Yeah you described it perfectly. I remember back in 3rd grade I always wished for a game with an interactive house, interactive people, and such. I stumbled across a youtuber by the name of Mark Hates Kittens, and fell in love with the game. It was everything I ever dreamed. A few months ago (maybe 3?) I remembered MSC. I thought it would be a good time to buy it. Logged 350 hours on it since. I love it.

EDIT:

I found the video I watched. I vividly remember coming home from school and seeing this on my recommended. Clicked on it and it was like a perfect game to me. It kind of reminded me of a bus simulator I used to play called OMSI. Fully interactive cars, no binded buttons, everything was manual. My Summer Car is just the perfect game, there's no arguing otherwise.

It always has this sort of charm to it I can't describe. Sometimes, it will go horrible, and other times it will be perfect. Just today I was cruising with Pena to get my Satsuma from the rally parc ferme, and the sun was setting, birds chirping, his gearbox CRUNCHing, it was amazing. It gives off this vibe you can't describe. It's the perfect combination of realism and comedy.

It's same for me except the fact that i play it purely because of the vehicles and mainly Satsuma. Racing is a life for me but still i enjoy a little "realism" so it don't just feel like some racing game.

It's a game about making mistakes, realizing what you did wrong, and adding knowledge of how to avoid that mistake in the future to your memory. With the sheer number of ways there are to set the house on fire alone, it tests your ability to have common sense about safely handling potential ignition sources. Like maybe don't throw a jerry can full of gasoline into your fire place, for example, or don't fall asleep while smoking. Stuff that could save you from doing these dangerous things in real life. So My Summer Car is a Safety/Instructional game.

Game is a very realistic game, so realistic that even some players left the game for it. After these things, Topless still securing the classic fandom of the game is perfect, because companies realising that some ones leaving your game they will try to make it a better saler with more QOL things, Microtransactions and Season stuffs. Maybe MSC seen worse days with these "normal" game players attacking the things of the game (still happens in the forum at least three weeks at a time) but that shaped the fandom to this day with only real fans are playing the game.

(To these "normal" players) Yes, your thread in forum has the chance of getting seen by Topless and getting changed but changing special things of the game is not a good idea. You won't be getting shiny green lambos with blue neon lights my guy, this game is like that, leave it like that. Go play a game that fulfill your needs, just don't try to change this game, probably not going to happen too.
Yeah that's how i was trying to describe it. All of my 3 permadeaths were learning curves. Jumping in front of a moving Jani, driving the moped into trees without a helmet at 60 kmh, etc. There's no flashback button. You make your mistake and that's it.

My permadeaths' one was a moped mistake i was going around the grass section of the road near mansion which it was very bumpy, go up high and died with helmet. One was crashing Gifu to the bridge's corner, died with a helmet. Funny thing i was trying to prevent a crash with helmet these days, one was a crash i don't remember i was trying to get ready to rally. what a hard time permadeath mode was. I have finished the story and other things with non-mortal mode because permadeath was so much of a pain.
Same here. I'm currently progressing the story, but the only reason I am is because I quit playing PD. Was sick of losing all of my work. The only reason I still alt+f4 death in non-mortal mode, even when I'm not in the satsuma, is because when I die, the spark plugs fall out, the battery falls out, and the oil filter falls out, and I can't grab them.

Gameplay wise, it's not really quite like anything else, at least not at the time (I think Mon Bazou is probably the closest, but I've not seen enough of it yet to say). I guess a life simulator.

But if I had to describe it, I would say it is the video game equivalent of listening to someone tell a story about a past time in their life. It doesn't depict a literal memory, but the impression of one (if that makes sense). A lot of things are exaggerated, like the policing being after *you* specifically, or how everyone drives like a maniac. And things are cut down to the important parts, like how the NPCs are mostly just the memorable people, with nameless extras filling in other important things like, "drunk people wandered around town" or "everyone came out to see the rally". The people dont matter, but in these cases their role is important to the atmosphere.

Tl;dr it's like experiencing a memory of a time and place as remembered many years later. It's the important, funny, and infuriating parts. It's a weird blend of unusual attention to realism and comically unrealistic married together in a way that just works.

This is what was in my brain but refused to come out. That's exactly what it is.
