A question that was asked a thousand times before
I always warm up the engine of the satsuma before I go for a drive like the good boy that I am. But I recently heard from people that they don't
warm it up at all. Which brings me to my question:
How much damage does driving the Satsuma on a cold engine actually do? I don't mean completely thrashing it at 7500 rpm but shifting reasonably maybe at half throttle. And what role does afr play in that? If I have a richer tune which reaches lower afr earlier, say 16, is it safer to drive?

That would be a good experiment, but could be difficult to collect take a long time to test everything. Chances are that the engine temperature and AFR have no effect on engine wear.

Irl when the engine is cold the oil is thicker, and puts more stress on oil pumps when driving hard. But this isn't simulated in MSC. And, you don't need to warm up before driving. Just choke the carb to prevent backfiring, and drive off. And if your AFR is rich enough, you do not even need to choke at all.

and does backfiring causes any problems or is it just noise that does nothing?

It does wear down the engine parts a little.

the exact same (if not less than) doing it to an already warm engine

Are you guys ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ kidding me? All this time I spend warming up my car was wasted? :D

Wait what

AFR of 16 is really high.
11 is the low end.

I tuned my engine to road legal AFR (14.2).
I pull the choke that the engine has an AFR of about 12.
I start to drive gently, shift at 2000rpm.

Before I reach the first railroad crossing I release the choke.

Yeah that was easy to misunderstand. I meant having a rich afr (13.5 in my case) so that the afr on a cold engine is at about 16.

You will accelerate piston wear doing it, cold AFR at about 16 has accelerated wear but its such a small period of time that it doesn't matter, you're rebuilding the engine dozens of KM later but you rebuild it every couple of weeks anyway.
