worn out parts
So I built the car and it runs fine, its reasonably tuned etc... but it seems most of the original parts are worn out and need replacing. The head gasket in particular.
Was there really any point in building the car with these parts or should you just buy new parts before even starting?

You can't buy new parts before your parts is totally gone bad.

If you plan on replacing every wearable part, set aside about 10 to 15k's. At the start of the game, you don't have that much, so no, you can't.

Also, you can only buy a new part after you've taken the old part off the car.

right, but does the old part have to be completely broken? I know my head gasket is a gnats whisker from breaking. Can I buy a new one now or do I have to deliberately blow up my engine before I can get a new part?

When you start a new save it is possible to buy new parts. You can also let Fleetari repair the parts. Both work fine from the start, doesn't matter in what condition the parts are.

Only condition to not be able to buy parts is if they are assembled, which they are not when starting a new game.

@John ok so that suggests that the answer to my opening question is that it is sensible to replace/repair the parts before assembling the car.

Before building engine at all go buy parts from fleetari. No need to replace engine block or oilpan, u need 6,4k to buy pistons, crankshaft, rockershaft, headgasket, water pump, alternator, starter, gearbox.

This is false, as long as the part is not installed you can buy a new one

you can do any. You can do it with stock parts and make it run 10 meters and break down, some people want them fixed by fleetari. I like to save cash and buy every part brand new to make sure everything works
