It goes under the flyplate... I always forget it, too

you place it on the same side the flywheel goes on before you attach it.

Everything is sorta necessary or you'll potentially have leaks and sputters. But hey, Finnish summer only come once a year, throw engine plate in river and go on with your life. The car will probably work.
