Can't open toolbox

I bought and started playing on Halloween. Saved my game that night and went to finish building my engine the next night. However, I cannot open the toolbox (or pick up a beer/sausage) anything. Does anyone have any idea what I can do to fix this so I don't have to start over?

press F to drink beer or open the toolbox. You need to be pointing at it in such a way that a hand icon appears. In the case of the toolbox, this would be pointing at the handle. All the controls are in the options menu that appears when you press esc or F1 and you can look them up there or change them. F also eats food that you point at, uses the mosquito spray and so on.
