Genuinely educational?
Hi yous guys, was wondering if this game was actually legitimately useful for someone looking to learn more about the workings of an automobile, more so than Mechanic Simulator?

absolutley , this is as close as building an actual engine as i've seen in any game.
the engine you're building isn't anything special , but it's pretty damn accurate.

Kinda - the engine you build in game is massively simplified, but it gives you an idea.

It is far from the real things in terms of parts count, but I wonder if there's anything more complex easily available out there.

And besides car mechanics, if you're ever suddenly in the middle of Finland, you can learn a lot from this game. For people saying it's too difficult and there are too many mosquitoes: It's even worse in real life. Besides today not all villages have a shop anymore, you'd have to put the car just enough together to drive 50km in the worst hangover ever just to get milk, sausages and beer to be able to continue fixing the car (personal experience) :) So it is genuinely educational in all aspects.

That's in fact the case ingame - Weren't one ingame hour 5 minutes? It would usually take 5 minutes to drive to the town for an average speed greater than 50km/h.

Yes, it is amazing.

Ah yes, it does rouse the nostalgic emotions of the times long gone. I bet a glimpse of Alivieska in 2016 would be a devastating sight.

As someone who has worked on real Datsun 100As, I can say that the design and method of assembly is actually very close to the real car but naturally, it is greatly simplified. For example in the engine you don't have to fit gaskets other than the cylinder head, nor do you have the oil pump assembly, timing chain tensioner, bearings or piston rings. The same applies to the rest of the car but this is necessary to make the game more accessable to players who have no technical knowledge who, without detailed instructions, would find assembling the car extremely difficult.

Conversely the one thing that actaully IS more complicated that in real life is the fasteners. Most Datsuns only use bolts that are either 8, 10, 12, 14, 17 or 19mm... far less than are used in MSC!

Agreed, it is a great primer to learn the stuff for real, even if it is simplified a great deal. The balance between fun and accuracy is well done, I think.

It took me well over a hundred hours to get from a bare block to this (although I did do a bunch of modifications and had to assemble the head too): http://s226.photobucket.com/user/Koivusalo/media/engine%20work/29-6-10.jpg.html

I would NOT enjpy a similar task in a game!
