Is there a a way to shift directly to first gear on the keyboard?
I tried setting up a key for first gear on car controls, but nothing happens when I press it, even if I press the clutch in. Am I missing something?

I have auto clutch enabled and I can shift just fine with the up and down keys, but it is too slow to shift from top gear down, if you had to make a sudden stop for the train or for Teimo on his bike (I love Teimo). Also, starting off on a hill in the Gifu in low range can be annoying. It would be more fun if we could go through the gears in low range and then switch to high range. I usually lose speed while downshifting back to first and have to start over.

What I usually do in the Gifu on hillstarts is start out in 1 low, shift to 2 low, 3 low. And then quickly shift to 2 low, followed by 2 high, and then back down to 1 high. Offcourse how many gears you wanna use depends on how steep the hill is. On flat ground I usually get up into 4 or 5 low and then shift down, shift to high, shift down again.

Turn on H shifter in the car controls menu.

No don’t turn it or you will need to stay pressing the key

On kb use sequential gears, by default they're G = gear up and B = gear down (and use autoclutch). And cars will start on neutral and then press G to get 1st gear on.

Mapping gears to specific buttons and H-shifter enabled doesn't work on kb because u need to then hold that gear key down, if u release it goes into neutral. I'm not 100% sure how it works with kb since I've never tested.

The keybinds for the gears are if you're using an H-shifter which holds the position when it's in a gear. You can assign a key on your keyboard to a gear but then that means you have to hold that key the whole time you want to be in that gear, which isn't practical on a keyboard.

The only practical way to shift on keyboard or controller (or a wheel if you don't have a shifter) is sequentially either with or without auto clutch.

I don't use H-shifter, I use press this key to go up/down once in gear. I bound first gear to X and it resets to neutral gear when I press X.

...why is that?

You are going to blow up your engine. I shifted from fourth to first with an H-shifter, clutch fully disengaged, and it blew up (over-revved) my engine. Hayosiko will lock up rear wheels in the same situation. A bug I guess.

Well, of course shifting from fourth to first while moving will over-rev your engine. Not a bug unless I'm misinterpreting what you said.

You'd think I'd mention the clutch if I wasn't making a point the pedal was fully pressed down? Interesting train of thought.

Not sure if I read you, I'm talking about downshifting back to first gear quickly after you have come to a complete stop. The car isn't moving so the revs should not go up, and the wheels aren't turning. A glitch with the clutch like you describe going out suddenly should just stall the vehicle, unless there is something else I'm missing?

So far, I have not experianced any issues leaving vehicles idling in first gear with autoclutch holding it in neutral. I do this when I suck ♥♥♥♥ with the ♥♥♥♥ suck truck to earn a buck. Maybe it's just dumb luck.
