Same effect as losing your keys to pigman when you lose gambling sorta
(Also: did anyone of you ever lose a car key? Seriously?)
So I could see that "someone" could borrow your vehicle(s) (bonus point for actually letting them drive around), so that not every car is available to the player at any given time.
Think of it like this: your uncle needs the van or the Gifu from time to time, Fleetari needs his Ferndale to himself (especially when he's closed), and so on.
I like the idea of having uncle use the Hayosiko and/or Gifu every now and then. They're his vehicles after all, the player is simply borrowing them. Same for Fleetari's car, would at least be nice to see the Ferndale parked somewhere near the registration area for rally. Not sure how much it'd bug out the "return my car or else" mechanic though.
