No, i agree. Like, you need to have the key in the inventory to open the doors and start them up and if you leave them there unlocked maybe the car gets stolen adn wrecked

And the ability to lose the car keys somewhere in the game world... you’re pretty much screwed if you do lol
Same effect as losing your keys to pigman when you lose gambling sorta

I feel like in Gearhead Garage mods where the author put in a "key" as an installable part and it's so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ small you can't even find it.

I see no point in this... since we don't have an inventory (ie "pockets") it would get annoying quite quickly if you'd have to carry keys around one-by-one...
(Also: did anyone of you ever lose a car key? Seriously?)

I've lost keys to a Pontiac Bonneville. My first car, rip. Haven't lost a car key since 2009.

Its not just about losing keys, but i think also about just forgetting to lock the car too and having it be stolen.

I'd guess that vehicle theft wouldn't be a thing in rural finland, I doubt that anyone in an area that remote bothers locking their cars... what I can see though (and I believe I've suggested something like it before) is something like you do with the Ferndale: "borrow" it for a while if you're in a pinch, give it back later.
So I could see that "someone" could borrow your vehicle(s) (bonus point for actually letting them drive around), so that not every car is available to the player at any given time.
Think of it like this: your uncle needs the van or the Gifu from time to time, Fleetari needs his Ferndale to himself (especially when he's closed), and so on.

Yeah, not uncommon to see unlocked cars and bicycles in rural Finland even these days. If someone stole a vehicle, everyone would know who did it. Kinda like how you can't get away with stealing fuel. Don't see a point in changing the key system as it is.

I like the idea of having uncle use the Hayosiko and/or Gifu every now and then. They're his vehicles after all, the player is simply borrowing them. Same for Fleetari's car, would at least be nice to see the Ferndale parked somewhere near the registration area for rally. Not sure how much it'd bug out the "return my car or else" mechanic though.

Yeah, it would probably break our lovely "manic mechanic" - although: he "knows" where he left his car. So if you'd return it to that point (within a certain radius of, say 50 m, for example) he could be fine with it.

We already do. I think you mean selecting the keys from the inventory, like switching from ‘hand’ mode to ‘tool’ mode and back.
