Night time darkness: This has been discussed many times, and unlikely to change. Best advise I can really give (and tbh its not a good one) is to turn up monitors/gfx/etc brightness.
Washed out look: This is really bad when both house shadows and the other shadows (forget the name) are disabled. No known fix for it atm other then leave shadows turned on.
Sauna fires: This is a realism thing. Saunas can be highly dangerious if just cranked up to the nuts and left unattended. To use the sauna and prevent fires, turn the thermostat up about 5 ticks from the "off" position, then set the timer to the max. By the time the timer runs out, the sauna temp will be just above 80 or so (dont remember exactly). Sauna catches fire if the temp inside goes past 120.
IMPORTANT: Keep a close eye on the sauna on game loads. I have had issues were the timer was off but the temp was still up. I saved/reloaded the game, and for some reason the timer was back to being maxed out on game load, causing the sauna temp to go past 120 and burning down the house.
NOTE: If you were not aware, the sauna no longer removes dirtyness, thats what the shower is for, but the sauna does decrease stress fast....at the cost of a high utility bill.
It's just been a pain in the butt. The amount of time I've had to spend over these 100 play hours searching guides, re-treading old paths to deal with unfairly lost progress, things falling through the world, learning the ins and outs of buggy/fiddly situations (like the one you mention above), repairing things with MSC editor, etc.. It just starts to add up.
I do all this because I love the heck out of the game and I love the vibe, the gameplay and the nostalgia. But I can't say I haven't been gritting my teeth a bit recently. Grab a flashlight, right? I can't do that if my entire screen is black.. :)
Thanks again for the tips.
I think sauna is less likely to cause fire if u don't max out the thermometer on the stove. U can leave it 3-4clicks under the max. And maybe don't max out the timer either.
Just continue saving and passing time(+2h each save) in the toilet if it's too dark to see. Darkest period of day when u really can't see anything is only between 1am - 3am. If u are about to save around 11pm just go sleep if u can first (or watch tv and increase fatigue bar to 33% or more so u sleep for 4-6h and it will be around 5am when u wake up and then save.
I WAS SOBER! THIS IS AN OUTRAGE! oh well, at least i lived.
The lesson is to do what you need done well before it gets dark, because it will be too late. If you suspect you will be home late, and there is no way around it, leave the garage light and hall light in the house on. Once you turn the ignition and your vehicle lights are off, you're screwed.
There is a flashlight you can carry with you, but be careful as it's easy to drop it.
Also: whenever you save inside the house, just make sure the toilet-light is on before you hit save. That one small light does not consume that much power.
Keeping the sauna on all the time just sounds like a money-pit to me apart from the obvious fire hazard.
A) Nice necro
B) Turn the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ lights on in the toilet before you save the game. It's not rocket science. FFS.
