How to talk with your grandma?

I've been at grandma, I drank like 300 cups of coffee, but she hasn't said a word. Is there a special time of day, when you can communicate with her? If yes, when?

Ok, now she finally spoke to me, but I don't know how to respond to what she says. I read in the log that it's the letter "K", but it doesn't do anything when I press it.

Sorry for hijacking this thread, I've had a phone call from the old bugger asking for some milk, sugar and sausage from the store, but dropping the stuff for her doesn't seem to work, I still have the little dart on my map back at the house, am I doing something wrong?

My steps are as follows.
Go to the store
Pick up the 3 item she asks for
Go to her house - she offers me a coffee
I drop the bag in the basket next to her - nothing happens.
I open said bag and place each item in said basket.
Items are no longer accessible.
Dart remains on map back at the house.
