Does leaving the car with ignition on drain battery?
Is that a thing in this game?

Literally just installed dash gauges and the aftermarket radiator, went out on some septic runs, slept in truck and came back, and car is completely dead, as in doesn't crank or light the dash up. Checked all things related to the electrical system, everything seems to be in order. So naturally I am now assuming the battery is dead, and using the charger isn't helping anything. Now im wondering if I accidently left the car with the ignition on, and if that is even a thing in this game?

How do I tell a dead starter from a working one? Are there suppose to be visual decay on parts? Battery is only at the shop, and to get a new starter, I must bring the old starter to the dude with the Coronet looking car?

Can the bike go to the shop and back on 1 tank of gas? Im in an akward situtation where everything that actually runs is low on fuel.

the Jonnez will easily manage that. you should take the jerry can with you next time you go to town and fill it up so you always have enough fuel to get back to the shop again.

yes the ignition being on will drain the battery, so does everything else, even just leaving the car for a while will drain the battery slowly. it's obviously the battery, the starter being broken will not stop the light from turning on, your starter is fine.

Does the battery charger even work? It stays on 12v no matter if the battery is new or not I noticed.

people have got it to work, i haven't. there is a bug with batteries right now that's difficult to pin, sometimes they'll just randomly lose all of their charge after a couple of days, even though it's supposed to take several hours of irl time, so your new battery might have bugged out.

Alright, well that just means I will have to drive around with a spare in the trunk. By the way, I cant seem to get the promt to pull starter off after losening bolts. Do i really need to pull the engine out for that to work?

dude your starter isn't broken. there's only 2 bolts, after that you can take it off.

I know it isnt broken, i got a new battery and the car works fine now, but after that other dude mentioned starter i went and tried to pull it off but couldnt. So it was just for future reference

I was wondering about that. I've bought 3 of them, heh.

But yes, OP, leaving the car in ACC mode will drain the battery if the engine is not running. Likewise with leaving your headlights/interior lights on, radio going, etc. The alternator charges the battery or vice versa or something?? Somebody clarify!

This is something I've encountered IRL. Was hanging out in a truck listening to the radio for a while, and 2 hours later the truck wouldn't start. Needed a jump.

I am not sure about the alternator in game. Thats the thing, you know how all this stuff would work IRL, but if it translates into the game you dont know.

yes you do, it does. the only thing this game doesn't include is the necessity to drain and clean engine parts if the head gasket fails. of course the alternator charges the battery, that's how it works. if the alternator dies, the car dies after the battery drains because the engine has no dynamo to generate power for the sparks, therefore if you alternator dies, drive with as high of a gear as possible, freewheeling when you can, to drain the battery slowly which means you will get further before having to walk.
