Does MSCEditor just ruin your saves?
The editor is so useful, but just like every time i come back to this game, I hit a brick wall. I figured out wiring after completely building the car for the 100th time, and everything is going alright, but now my car shows no signs of life. I bought the battery from Tiemo's Shop and tried using it at first, then i put i unbolted it from the car, and put it on the charger and tried using the stock battery, but same deal.

I have put so many hours into this game and really want to like it, but it seems like the only real way that you can get accurate info from your game is through MSCE and using it to edit things, and find out information, getting back lost parts ETC...

But every time I finish the car in this game, Everything is done to a T, then nothing ever works. I have no idea why. Here's what i know.

At one point during wiring i was testing everything to make sure it worked, and it did. Then i realized that the fuel tank pipe was missing so i spawned it in on me, installed it, put oil, coolant and fluids into their resevoirs, and then go to turn the car on and... nothing.

Any suggestions. I even looked through the wiring tab of MSCE, and everything that needs to be true is true, and everything that I dont have installed is false, as it should be.

Sounds like, that you struggle to keep the battery charged.
When testing electric things, you really need the engine running, to maintain the battery charge.

How do you lose things like fuel tank pipe?

Problem is that:

1) the stock, old battery discharges very fast, and once you're done with the car, it is done as well
2) usually the first battery bought from Teimo is bugged (look at the currentcharge value for that one in items.txt file)

You can do two things to avoid it:

- the very first thing you do when you start a new save is to put the battery next to the charger in order to not let it deteriorate and be ready when the car is assembled

- if you don't like the stock battery and the new one doesn't work, use msc editor to change currentcharge to 120.

And there you go.

MSCEditor is outdated and I think developer have stopped updating it long ago.
It's very likely it can break things and it might now show everything that could be wrong.

The original car parts are always in pretty bad condition and they will break down quickly. A couple of runs to the store and some joyriding is all you usually get on the first build before something reach the point of failure.
It's like that because the game is all about building the car and to figure out what parts are breaking by the signs the car gives.

If the car don't start you have to figure out why.
Nothing when you turn key? Battery or wiring.
Lights go on but motor don't? Is the wiring to the starter properly done? There is a screw you must losen up before you can do both the wires for example.

Does it give sounds when you try to start it? Then it's other things. MSC wiki will give you some good advice to troubleshoot the car.

Only if you use it improperly or literally play the game through it, you gotta be really dumb to do any of that so it's totally fine for normal use.

The only thing I use it for is to moved glitched items, and for the car report.

I don't have it fix, install, tune, or replace anything on the car.

For me this whole game is about managing, building, and maintaining my car.

If I'm not in the mood for doing that, there are plenty of other games for driving around, doing odd jobs, and messing with the AI... they even include several radio stations to choose from.

No, it doesn't. Now that I think about I've only used it to give myself money and fix loose bolts that I can't find so I don't have that much experience with it.
