Do the spoilers have any effect on downforce or are they purely cosmetic??
Question as the title. I'm loving the work which has gone into the game physics so far and wondering if the front & rear spoilers will add more grip on the Satsuma. In addition to the additional grip when cornering would the drag factor also reduce the potential top speed?

You mean like the weight of the spoilers will slow down the Satsuma because of weight?

To hit the 200+ KPH goal you need all aftermarket parts including the body mods. So I am guessing that they do help in some way, yet without a correct in game car "map" we have no 100% sure way to tell. Yet all signs points towards yes.

Except the body mods make no noticable difference according to research done by a few other members that post on the Steam Discussions with results. As I see it, all signs point towards no until proven otherwise.

I could also be incorrect, but you're free to test it yourself.

Spoilers in real life affect how the airflow moves over a car. A large wing on the back has the equivalent effect of having a large Finnish gentleman sat on the boot of the car. For RWD drives this will mean more grip on the driving wheels. The Satsuma is FWD but the wing in theory should keep the rear wheels more stable. The front spoiler should do the same for the front of the car.

Although the spoilers don't add much weight by themselves, the effect of the airflow when the car is moving means that the car seems heavier and more stable.

So this must mean the extra stability provided by the wings exceeds the drag factor created by them. The extended arches will also have the effect of making the airflow smoother around the wheel arches, reducing drag there.

Great work with the physics Topless Gun!

My next question will be, is it better to have the additional body mods for rallying or just use them for maximum performance on the highway?

Thats is not true . You can hit 200+ with only the twin carb and maybe the Rally wheels .
You don't need any body mods at all . Just make sure you have a windshield .

So it seems that they may not have an effect after all. I think some testing will need to be done. I've not been very consistent with my drag times so my data wouldn't be any good.

I've got all the engine upgrades and rally tyres, I'm still yet to hit 200kph even though I've hit the rev limiter in top gear on the highway. This is without any body modifications.

They're very commonly confused, but spoilers and wings are completely different aerodynamic devices. Spoilers decrease drag by "spoiling" the airflow (reduces parasitic drag from turbulence behind car), wings create downforce (which actually increases drag, but the extra grip should more than compensate).

Now, since the Satsuma is FWD, wings should be pretty much useless since you don't need extra grip on your back wheels and it will unload the front wheels which do. But a spoiler should work just fine.

Wheather any of the aero mods in the game work as they should, or at all, who knows.

Like others said already, this isn't true in this game. Here's how I got my rusting fast achievement:

Windscreen had to be on but you can go without any additional body panels even.

I am planning to at least test aero calculations for front and rear spoilers, but haven't yet done that as it seems quite useless because the overall relatively slow speeds in the game. Other concern I have is that the rear spoiler quite probably will bent the bootlid from its hinges.

So for now, the spoilers have purely visual effect together with added weight.

Just like all the other cars of that era in the 90's. Vauxhall Nova's were all the rage back then, (Opel Corsa for EU) The lads I grew up with all had crazy spoilers on theirs claiming that they helped improve the speed. Not likely on 1.1 or 1.3 litre engines :D

Well its around a 80€ wing so probably not much
