Can't put stock exhaust back on car.

Let me just start by saying I've built the entire car multiple times, had this build done for ages, just never bothered to take it for an inspection. Deciding to do this, I have to refit original parts, and immediately I'm stuck at the original exhaust not going back on.

The aftermarket exhaust will go on without issue; The tick pops up easily, but I've been trying with the original for at least 20 minutes, to no avail.
I don't recall the steel headers not being able to hold the stock exhaust, but could this be the case? :|

Yep. Gotta have the complete exhaust stock.

But I recall being able to mount the stock muffler to the aftermarket long pipe - not that it had fit or worked, but it could be tightened with bolts.
