Smoke detector
It does what a smoke detector does and you wake up when it beeps. Maybe you can buy it and some batteries.

The detectors may malfunction just because why not?

It can wake you up if a fire just started, allowing you to extuingish it and save your lovely house. Not paying the electricity bills cuts off electricity, and the detector aswell. One more reason to keep paying them. +1

Well, it does seem to malfunction sometimes. I just had an episode where it decided to start beeping for no reason then stop when i had nothing on fire.
