I tried for 4-5 hours on my own (literally around a third of my total playtime of the game). I tried keyboard and controller. I've tried as several different characters. Sound on and sound off. On my TV and on my monitor. I also tried using AutoHotKey to program a solution for those sections. No dice.
When I check videos it looks like there was possibly slightly more tolerance between the pillars.
Can anyone confirm they have beaten !-9 with all gems after the recent patch?
I was going to ask the same thing. Even took a screenshot to make it more clear

There is absolutely no way to complete it with all the gems. Sometimes the character do it well, but 99% of times it just bonks where it shouldn't.
Does this update messed with the hitboxes in this section?
Edit: Is there a way to play the old version for comparison? Like a beta branch?
Would you tell us which character/costume did you use?
In terms of one loop of double jump -> ground pound -> run --> double jump -> ground pound (like the first obstacle in the second last section) I would say my success rate is maybe 1 in 50. I have gotten through the second last checkpoint once. I have never gotten beyond the first double jump -> ground pound -> run part after the double jump floating stairs.
I tried the following strategies:
- Double jump, ground pound onto obstacle, short hop, ground pound
- Double jump over obstacle, ground pound
- Slide under top obstacle versus run under top obstacle
No objection to difficulty at all, in general I would say even on the highest difficulty the game isn't too hard, and I don't find anything else on !-9 hard... just this very specific narrow section seems to be impossible for me. I have tried with and without vsync. I did try briefly on the keyboard but have generally been playing with a 360 wireless controller -- is there a reason to believe the input buffering or wireless lag is playing a part here?
What is the actual timing window in milliseconds between when jumping is too early (bonk on the overhead obstacle) and when jumping is too late (fastest possible double jump won't clear ground obstacle)?
What's the actual arc of the double jump? Is it better to double tap immediately? Should I hold the second jump a bit?
I agree with you. The game even on hardest settings are ok to play. It is fair. But these sections on !-9 are impossible for me too.
I did try with keyboard too. No sucess. I play with an 360 wired controller. I'm having the same issue, so it definetely isn't a wireless lag.
I gave another shot with Shovel Knight and guess what? It still impossible
To complete the level, it is like a walk in the park. The only problem is to get the 10 gems located in those narrow places.
I really don't know how there were 8 "impossible" levels that feels like hard, but fair and then we have the last "impossible" level that you need to find the only millisecond you have to jump to not bonk on the block above or ahead.
I really would like to test the old version of the level. As I can see on some youtube videos, there are some differences. The easier to see is the one pointed by KomplexGyok in this topic. So I guess that this level got harder than expected after the update.
