Order of Battle?
Is this just space marine vs. space marine, or are other armies represented, such as Imperial Guard, Adeptus Mechanicus, etc. Also, where is the infantry? The game seems to be heavily focused on tanks and titans. I think I've seen glimpses of dreadnoughts and maybe some terminators, but I would expect to see hordes of infantry around.

No troops in this one from what i have read. This battle was taken place after a massive chemical attack. I dont know all the details but i am sure somebody will correct me.

Battle of Tallarn. Horus Heresy. So yes, loyalists vs rebels... no other factions than Imperium. I havent play the game too long, but according to the lore, there should be some guard regiments and space marines involved in the battle... but still, this was one of the largest tank confrontations in the Wh40k.

Mostly tanks, knights, titans, artillery. But yes, there are terminator squads in game. I've seen Veletaris Storm Section squads too.

Solar Auxilla vs Iron warriors. Eventually Iron Hands and Imperial Fists reinforce the beseiged regiments. The loyalists are further reinforced by a small force of Ultramarines, more regiments, Knight Houses and a Titan Legion.

Ah right. I thought the planet got nuked and made it unsafe for troops. Obviously I don't know much about this event but I do love the heresy era.

The Battle of Tallarn was a major conflict of the Horus Heresy, which saw the destruction of the Imperial world of Tallarn. Once arriving at Tallarn, Perturabo, the Primarch of the Iron Warriors, was made aware of the Black Oculus hidden beneath the planet, and he immediately drew up plans to invade so that his forces would become strong.

Firstly, Iron Warriors destroyed all orbital and surface defense installations and after it used virus bombes. Perturabo believed that he was able to destroy any defenders. However, many tank regiments were hidden in shelters beneath the surface scattered across the planet, and they ventured into the poisonous world to attack any Iron Warriors who landed on the surface. This led to a protracted battle that weighed heavily on the side of the Iron Warriors until other Imperials arrived in system to support the defenders. Eventually, the Iron Warriors were able to capture, with the secret aid of the Alpha Legion agents, the shelter beneath the Sapphire City and use it as a foothold upon the surface.

The Iron Warriors flooded the planet with troops and tanks, and the easy victory turned into a protracted war at a great cost to both sides of the conflict. Through the actions of the emissary of the Warmaster Argonis, the Alpha Legion agents, and Imperial Infocyte agent Iaeo, the Iron Warriors search for the Black Oculus was exposed, and they are forced to withdraw from the planet. Although the planet's surface was destroyed and many resources were lost in the defense, the battle was regarded as an important Imperial victory during the Horus Heresy.

Also it was a biggest tank battle in Warhammer 40000-Universe, until the battle between Cadian 423rd Armoured Regiment and traitors from Adamant Fury Titan Legion (in the this battle, the Imperium lose nearly 8,000 tanks and 35 Super Heavy Tanks.)

Great story, thanks. I assume this is covered in the Horus heresy book series. I am only up to fulgrim at the moment and struggling to finish it.

1 Armoured Regiment and 8000 tanks? sounds more like the assets of several army groups. How big are these Tallarn regiments? On earth a regiment has in about 2-3k soldiers.
