Report a translation problem
I don't understand the chart at all. "Follow the dots and dashes to get to the correct letter", and then there's numbers along the bottom with some circles empty
I'm at a loss as to what the devs want me to do here. Do I need to literally just google morse code and decypher the dots and dashes manually because this in-game chart isn't helping at all.
EDIT: Well that works. I wonder why the chart in-game doesn't just have the morse code alphabet instead. I still don't get it but I suppose I'll just rely on this method instead
I already finished that quest using the actual morse code alphabet on my tablet device, but out of curiosity (or if we need to use the telegraph again in a later chapter? I'm still playing at the moment..) I'd like to understand how the puzzle was meant to play out.
looking it up again for your sent messages though helped me work out why that's so difficult, the code actually spells something out shorthand. remember how the devs want everything authentic Italian? yup, it's Italian Morse code, doesn't make much sense when you work out the shorthand for native english speakers
anyway, what I've done in the second playthrough is do most of the questline before the funeral, at day so I can see the translation board easily. you're following lines of either dots or dashes before a space for each letter, gets easier to decode the last few messages once you get used to it
I haven't done the final part finding the cache as of writing as I don't know if giulia will tell me off for trying the boat before the funeral, as I biked my way to the lake and when I reached it the bike softlocked me on a log or something, couldn't move, only had the prompt to get off but couldn't do that either. Giulia is dead, I guess?
Ruined the game for a while for me totally. Makes absolutely no sense to put this in this game.
You're right, it's a very poorly designed mechanic. Just avoid it, it's optional.
Now on how to complete the telegraph quest itself, just make sure to mention 'tank', 'road', 'near' and 'house' and it should be all fine. Also, the message can be easily decodified by following the chart from top to bottom. If it starts with a dot, then we start on the top left and if it's a dash, then top right. If the letter has a dot again, we move down left, if it's a dash we move down right. Do this for each letter and find the corresponding abreviation on the chart, click on it and so on. It's a fairily straightforward task. The whole walking around and running back and forth is way more difficult, IMO.
Oh wow thanks, after going back and looking at it again this actually makes sense, and is definitely a lot faster. It's just a shame that the game (either via an in-world instruction on the machine itself or just a UI window pane) never tells us *any* of that and expects us to figure out what the devs wanted somehow
I gather a lot of us either googled a morse code sheet and did it slowly one at a time, or outright just found a guide for this part.
Shame, it's actually a cool puzzle in hindsight knowing how the chart works now; just sucks that it lacks the critical information and the overall 'key' needed for solving it unless you look outside the game (Or are blessed with prior knowledge of these devices I guess).
The interface is a bit confusing! I'm guessing it's because everything was supposed to be realistic, so they went with an actual telegraph layout and since 'daddy taught us how to use it', Giulia doesn't need any tutorials
(Dont help i cant even get back into the house to read the freaking map i have looked at every day. on white lady "mission")
TO bad the devs completely forgot we the player have not been trained in telegraph like Giuila is.
Strangely enough they found it necessary to give a full tedious unnecessary photo development tutorial.
Im honestly shocked we didn't have to button press through a "How too bicycle" tutorial too.
Thank god for decoder websites.
