Manual Start Issue - Wheel Clutch Button not working
Trying to do the first race of the career mode, gone all through the practice sessions and qualifying with no problems come to the race and am now completely snookered because I can't start the formation lap/race as the clutch button assignment on my Logitech Wheel which in the options I have mapped to the Triangle/Y Button which is how it was in F1 2016 is not being recognised by the game. I press the button, apply the throttle to build the revs, when the lights go out and it tells me to release the clutch, I release the triangle button and the game still doesn't register, keeps telling me to release the clutch. Therefore I keep getting black flagged. How do you fix this as you can't mid race weeked change the options to disable manual starts?

Before anyone asks the button functions pefectly fine in other areas of the games menus and in all my other driving games, so I know the wheel is 100% fine. I wonder if it's an issue with the game recognising the Logitech Driving Force GT wheel as when I first went into the controller options quite a few buttons were not mapped at the games default.

I am having same issue with my G29. Even default controls dont work. R1 button is bind to Gear up and Clutch both by default!! I changed it to diff buttons but nothing works...Cant' play multiplayer games where manual start is required :(. Any fix for this?

Okey I just searched internet about this. You supposed to hold "Gear UP" button when countdown starts then press accelerate paddle and then release Gear UP button to start the race. But this doesnt work in my case. Car stays on grid without any movement. what can be wrong here? I deleted my G29 config XML and verified game cache to get a new one from server but it still doesnt work.

I'm finding this is still a problem in Dec 2018, more than a year after this was reported. No solutions posted yet? Did everyone just switch to assisted starts or something?

I thought maybe having the gear up control dual mapped was a problem, but I changed the right button from look behind to clutch only, just left the look behind function unbound, and still cannot start. This is on a Logitech G920 by the way.
I had assisted pit release in the practice sessions so did not notice until I actually got to a race that clutch release is just not working.
Is there a way to have assisted start but not change to automatic transmission? I am currently in manual with suggested gear. I like manual paddle shift, I would really like to avoid having to change to automatic transmission just because clutch release is not working.
Any ideas how to debug this? Is there a window I can turn on to show detected control positions, so I can see if the game is even detecting the button pushes correctly? I know it is detecting the upshift button because I could shift gears during all the practice sessions, and the right button would change view like expected when it was previously bound to look behind mode. Very frustrating, I only just got my controller setup, and after figuring out the controls with some practice sessions thought I was finally going to get to complete some races, but instead I can't even start the races.

On a hunch I commented out all of the classic clutch and manual transmission section in actionmaps/feral_action_map_preset_win.xml (I'm playing on linux, that is the Feral port equivalent of action_map_preset_win.xml), and that solved the problem with manual starts. Probably the "Clutch Classic" mapping was confusing the double mapping of clutch release for sequential transmission with the upshift button.

You hold the upshift paddlee for to engage the clutch. Once you let that paddle go it'll engage first gear and you're off.

Obviously, that is what the earlier posts say, the tutorials, the online help, etc. My point was that releasing the paddle did not engage first gear, only after commenting out the Clutch Classic mapping in the preset_win.xml file did it start working like it was supposed to.

Seemed it was a mapping issue then. Good to read you got it fixed
