the buttons show as active in the bottom left, but can't be assigned either, for example my indicators!

The game supports a number of Windows compatible steering wheels. No idea what your setup is, but here is an overview:

The following steering wheels are already preconfigured in the Bus Simulator 18:

FANATEC CSL Elite Wheel Base
HAMA Thunder V5*
HAMA V18 Vibration
Logitech Driving Force GT
Logitech G Saitek Farm Sim Lenkrad
Logitech G27
Logitech G29
Speedlink Black Bolt
Speedlink Dark Fire*
Speedlink Drift OZ PC
Speedlink Drift OZ PS3
Speedlink Trailblazer
Thrustmaster T150 RS
Thrustmaster T300RS
Thrustmaster T80
Thrustmaster TX Racing Wheel

*The HAMA Thunder V5 and Speedlink Dark Fire assign with the same name at the moment! The player needs to configure the steering wheel if the pre-sets are not satisfying.

I know that these steering wheels work, but the problem is that I have a custom-made (Do it yourself) steering wheel, and i can't assign any buttons or axis to a function, making the game unplayable. other games have no problems at all. maybe it's because the game doesn't recognize it, and thinks it's a gamepad, but assigning gamepad controls doesn't work either.

If your wheel can be adressed via SDL it should work with the game. Please try this tool to check if SDL will recognize your wheel: https://github.com/meleu/jstest-sdl

that's a tool for linux. I can't easily run/install that on my PC and test my joystick.

There is always the option to use a Linux version that can be booted via DVD or an USB stick.

I'm currently trying that. I'll reply when i'm done

yes, the steering wheel gets detected by the sdltest, and all functions show and work.

Hmm...so normally it should work...maybe the support team can be of help: helpdesk@astragon.de

maybe this is a misunderstanding. it's not that the game does not detect my steering wheel, because it does show the active buttons on the bottom left of the controls screen. but if i try to assign anything, nothing happens. am i meant to set it as an "active" controller?

For me the steering wheel as well as my gamepad are working fine. No idea what may cause the problem in your configuration. Like I said: Maybe the best will be to contact the support team so they can take a closer look: helpdesk@astragon.de

why isn't the G920 supported? I got this game when it first came out and it worked then, but now it doesnt.

The G920 is supported and should work fine in all. Did you install the latest driver software for your wheel?
