Anyone able now to get this to run on Ultrawide monitor 3440x1440?
The resolution in settings shows as 3440x1440 but the picture has the old familiar black bars on the side and is only 16:9 like a regular wide screen display.

I looked up on here and found a method to fix this but using the hex editor I cannot find the specified value to change it.

Wondering what I am doing wrong or is there another method to do this? Here are two pages I used to attempt it:

Not sure what I am doing wrong. it would be nice to play another game without black bars on it. Just finished Outlast 2 and it ran flawlessly in 3440x1440 right out of the box!

Yes, ultrawide works rather well (with the exception that you can't see all the settings in the settings menu).

If you can't find the correct values, make sure you use the correct search mode (hex) or try another hex editor. Here's an example from Okteta hex editor in Linux.

Thanks. I just finished the game without ultra widescreen. It was still pretty good. I wish more of these companies would add support. WIth the cost of these monitors coming down so much now there must be more gamers out there playing on them. Im hoping almost all of the newest games support it. RIght now Im still playing all my games from 2017. I play them in the order they were released.

I find that nearly all games today support ultrawide out of the box, it's rare to run into problems.

Unless the games are hardcoded for specific aspect ratios (like Street Fighter) or would offer an unfair, perhaps even game breaking advantage (like DARQ), ultrawide is usually obtainable either natively or via some unofficial methods.

If you want, feel free to check out my screenshots for plenty of examples. 100% Linux by the way. :)

No. Shows only at 16:9 ratio even with resolution at 3440x1440. So no support for ultra widescreen. Having to learn hex editing is not really a solution. Playing on Win 10.

Observer doesn't natively support resolutions wider than 16:9, no. However, that wasn't the question OP asked.

The fix for this unfortunate shortcoming is very simple. If you've ever edited a text document on a PC, you already possess 99% of the required skills.
I understand that not everyone is inclined to fix things for themselves, but it's a very useful ability and mindset to cultivate. There's always consoles for those who want the absolute minimum of fuss.

Development of Observer ended long ago, there's no reason to expect ultrawide support to be implemented. If we want to play it in ultrawide, the unofficial solution exists. Same fix works for both Windows and Linux versions. I don't know any Mac gamers so can't say for sure there.

It's up to you if rather spend 10 minutes fixing it yourself, or keep complaining on the Internet.

I ended up just playing it with the bars on the side. Done with it now. I tried the fix described, using a hex editor but it didnt work. Not sure what I did wrong. On other games I have gone in and done similar and it worked. UWSGF is the place I find most of my help.
I think there's been a patch to the game, so these hex values may have changed with the new executable. But I can't locate these values in the hex editor either.

There's been no patch.
In my post above, marked as 'thread answer', there are some tips and an image link. I hope those can help you figure it out.
