4:3 monitors letterboxing fix?
Is it possible to run the game without the letterbox? Black stripes really don't help immersing to the games atmosphere at all.

what kind of asinine thread is this? you talk about immersion yet you are using an outdated aspect ratio that games are not designed for. if you had a clue about things work then you would know that having black bars means its giving you the proper 16:9 view on your 4:3 screen. if you want it to fill out the screen with your aspect ratio then you will be cutting off nearly 1/3 of the game's intended fov. get a modern widescreen monitor and stop stupidly complaining about black bars.

Wow, thanks for the INCREDIBLY helpful comment. Did you assume the possibility, that there are people, who can't afford a new monitor at the moment, but still wants to play the game? I've played with 4:3 ratio for a long time now, and it's tottaly playable, games don't look worse because of it. If those threads makes you angry like a little kid, just freaking ignore them. I've created this topic to get help, not to attract agressive ppl like you.

if you cant afford to upgrade from an old 4:3 screen by now then gaming should be the last of your concerns. and based on your reply, I see your intelligence and comprehension skills are just as low as your finances. AGAIN there is nothing to "fix" as any modern game will either have black bars and the proper fov or it will cut off that fov to make it full screen. you being too clueless to realize that does not change anything.

Yea dude, I'm a kid, and I can't afford a modern monitor. That doesn't mean I'm poor (obviously, if my pc can run such a game). I still don't understand what are you trying to explain or prove here tho. You seriously think, that I don't know why I have black bars? I want to disable them, because I prefer cut off fov than letterbox just because it LOOKS more playable. A lot of modern games support 4:3 ratio (even witcher 3) by default, this game doesn't, so I'm trying to find a way to disable them manually. Don't know why you're so aggressive about it. Also if someone (for example) can't afford a freaking 4tb ssd like you, that doesn't mean they shouldn't play games, that's just stupid.

I think there were just some rather rude answers to your question unfortunately.

I haven't had much experience with this, but perhaps you can force the aspect ratio you need via the Nvidia control panel or the AMD equivalent? Otherwise, I'd assume all that is available to you is the in-game resolutions.

Thanks for the suggestion, finally someone is actually trying to help.

I am using 21:9 aspect ratio unlike all those 16:9 noobs ;) and after contacting Aspyr support regarding a bucket load of issues "AspyrJason" will always tell you that you dont have a problem and that the black bars will go away when you set your correct resolution, so basically they have no intent of ever fixing this game by the sounds of it :) managed to get my refund through HumbleBundle, also apparantly if you suffer freezes, frame drops and crashes where your game exits to desktop thats "what happens when Lazarski doesn't take his meds" according to the amazing AspyrJason.

PS there is only one person behind the support for this game and he is useless so if you have a issue you'll either have to live with it or get a refund :)

Try this.
go to C:/users/(your user name)/appdata/local/theobserver/saved/config/windowsnoeditor
open gameusersettings.ini
where it says resolutionsizeX and resolutionsizeY change it to your monitors native resolution.
if you cant see the appdata folder, open settings in file explorer, go to properties and check 'hidden items'
I cant test if it works because i dont have a 4:3 monitor but i like your style. proper gamers play on whatever theve got. peace

For reference:

1920 x 1080 = 16:9 / 1080p

720 x 576 = 4:3 / 576p

Make shift if removing the Blackbars is to use the Nvidia CP / CCC (AMD) and either Crop the sides or Zoom in.
