Here's a way to remove chromatic aberration and depth of field.
I saw a couple of people asking how to remove these settings so i thought i'd make a quick post explaining how to do that until the devs put the option in the menu.

In the folder: C:\Users\your user name\AppData\Local\TheObserver\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor open up the Scalability file and paste this:

[PostProcessQuality@3]
r.SceneColorFringeQuality=0
r.SceneColorFringe.Max=0
r.DepthOfFieldQuality=0

Save and then make the file read-only.

I believe you need to have video quality settings on high or custom as well.

While the chromatic aberration definitely fits with the aesthetic of the game, i still chose to disable it during gameplay and for taking screenshots since it really helps clean up the image quality and lets you appreciate the what the artists created without all that distortion.

Here are two examples of what the game looks like without it.

Thanks! Was looking for somethin like that!
Motion Blur and Chromatic Abberation needs to vanish from games, never encountered a single game where those settings were a boon. Or at least give us options.

anyway to kill off motion blur? that is just bleeeeh

Glad it was helpful DerOger. :) And i'm with you, i don't like those things either. I know some people do though, so like you said, having the option would be the best choice.
Jellybeans Aug 16, 2017 @ 6:28am
DeaDite, luckily you can turn that off in the settings menu!

maybe my sentence was misleading, there is indeed an option to turn of motion blur in the menu. I meant that more as a general rule :-)

Thank you so much for this, definitely going to buy this game later on now that I know CA can be turned off. This information is also in PC Gaming Wiki article for this game as well.

Thank you very much, digital-frontiers. Although I haven't the game I've planned to buy it and I have a question, is there a photo mode or, at least, a way to hide the HUD?
Jellybeans Aug 18, 2017 @ 6:48pm
Glad it was helpful for everyone!

Kyndegea, sadly there's no photomode. The game deserves one imo. Luckily, the only hud is a little dot for the reticle. If you're taking screenshots at higher resolutions (like 4k or up) the dot becomes a lot smaller and can often blend in to the surroundings. Or you could do what i did, which use Photoshop's fill/content-aware option to manually remove it (use the lasso tool to draw a line around the dot then click shift+f5. make sure the content-aware setting is selected in the "use" box too).

Thanks again for the info, digital-frontiers. It's a shame that there's no photomode, I think it's an important feature developers should give more emphasis, captures are a cheap way of promoting a game.

You made my day, thanks!

"appreciate the what the artists created without all that distortion."

One could argue that they intended for the distortion to be there in the first place

i can live with everything, some i find even useful if done right (motion blur)
but chromatic abberation (something that every photographer knows well) HURTS to look at.

Plus, my EYES are NOT a camera lens.

I tried turning it off as in post, but i see no difference in game myself, am only at start of game thou.
