It's definitely closer to Layers of Fear than Amnesia in terms of overall gameplay.
Do you have to hide of something? Can you die? Because I'm interested in the setup which game presents to me, but I hate games like Amnesya, Outlast or RE7; sorry, not my cup of tea :(
soma but without the constant hiding mechanics
edit: also its amazing
I've been a fan of horror games for 25 years now and I strongly disagree with your statement. There are just different kind of horror games or horror in general. The goal of horror is either to scare you or disgust you.
Some games are made to slowly build up fear and dread inside your mind, some are more action-oriented with horror elements. Both are horror games. But for me a game that is able to put a strong fear into you - it is just that, it's horror, period.
There is masterfully crafted horror, with scary story, atmosphere, charaters,... and there is cheap horror such as the one that relies only on jumpscares and sound. But if done well, even the cheap one is effective, or why not a mixture of both.
Anyway horror is such a broad term, as I said, if it scares you than it's horror, at least for you. For some people spiders are the horror, for some are the depths of the ocean. So we can say that horror is also a very subjective term, that applies to each individual differently...
PS: I didn't like Layers of fear that much, didn't find it to be particulary scary to play either, but it has indeed horror elements in it, the amosphere was masterfully crafted, the story felt pretty chliched I'd say, it weasn't that bad, but the gameplay and game progression was just irritating to follow through.
On the other hand I enjoyed The Evil Within. I think this game was truly the epitome of the horror genre, it had something scary in terms of monsters, environments, for every fan of horror :) ...and I loved how they made Reborn Laura.
theres been one very short segment so far, like 1 minute long
