"Engine?"
The previous installment used the Unity "engine" I believe led to several downgrades in quality since the first installment. I am no technical expert but this new announcement video didn't look like like any Unity-made video game; for one thing you can tell that they don't use that cardboard cut out type of movies.
Make this old man happy and tell me Lucius III will NOT utilize the terrible Unity "engine."

Unity 2018 is amazing, it actually looks better than unreal now. However I'm not sure lucius 3 is using Unity 2018's HDRP. It still looks far better than Lucius 1 and 2 that's for sure.

I have never been impressed with anything Unity. Every video game that I have on my computer box that has Unity seems like a cheap piece of c-- r-- a-- p. Where I do enjoy the Lucius franchise part 2 was littered with "bugs" and "glitches." Also, every Unity video game that I have seen, the movies or scenes inbetween game play always feel like a Tailand puppet show with the cardboard cutout characters.

After some search, i found that the engine is really Unity. The devs answered the question on this video.

I didn't see it, maybe I missed it. If it is Unity that gives me doubt.

Somebody on the comments asked about what engine its using, they confirmed its Unity. Im also not a fan of Unity at all, but there is some pretty good games using it.

It is indeed unity. It's true that we had quite a few bugs in the last installment, but I would not really blame Unity for that. It's mostly due to our decision to try out some sandbox elements that were left very open. This opens up tons of possibilities of unknown outcomes. The cardboard box cut-scenes are a choice to focus more on the game-play elements and use less resources on the story. This this third installment we are flipping the table again back to more story driven and scripted stuff. How ever there are enough freedom in the game, to still make it pretty complicated to keep intact.
Some nice examples of great Unity games for instance are: Firewatch and Inside.

I think it's all about the devs and how they manage things. We unfortunately have not always been able to secure 100% unbuggy experience. This is often due to the large scale of the projects to a very small team.

I know you cannot speak for other video game developers, however every Unity video game I have and can think of has similar "cut-scenes." One example is that terrible Overlord offshoot. That can't just be a coincidence. I do love your series and I will be buying this third one. But Unity always leaves a lackluster taste in my mouth and always shows it's terrible low budget limitations. Here is hoping you can somehow break that pattern.

Yeah. We shall see.. At least no paper cut-scenes this time ;) Will be adding some game-play video's very soon.

Pillars of Eternity, Ori, Endless Space, Cities:Skylines, Dungeons 3, Cuphead. To name a few. A list of all the better known games using it here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Unity_games

The problem is, because Unity is easy - there's a lot of cheap bundle fodder created in it which damages its reputation.

But that doesn't mean talented developers can't create amazing games in it. Heck I even found a couple of really good RPG Maker games this sale so now I know you can't judge a game on its engine. :D

Unity is very accessible, that's it. Many top games are made with unity.
Or do you want to tell everyone that you think games like Subnautica, Hollow Knight, Cuphead, Ori, Hearthstone and many more are objectively crap.
It's just that all AAA publishers have their own engines to use, so mostly indie devs use free engines (and unreal has a pretty small eco system compared to unity).
Unity is good engine. And there is lots of good Unity games. Reason you don't know that they are unity games is because devs use UnityPro and not free. Free slaps that "Made with Unity3D" wich just give bad rep for unity because assetflipers just use free version.

Ghost of a Tale is another game made with Unity that looks and plays fantastic.

The myth that Unity is a crappy engine is just that: a myth. The quality of games made with Unity depends solely on the developers making the game.

I ONLY think the way I do because video games I have played, made with Unity look subpar. I haven't played any of the video games you mentioned so I cannot speak to their quality, but every Unity-made video game I have played has movies that play that look like someone animating cardboard. Lucius 2, Overlord FOE, Zombie Night Terror. These kinds of animation styles cannot be coincidence but a limitation of what this "engine" is capable of. "Three times is a pattern."

No, it's not a coincidence, but it's also not because of engine limitations. It is solely due to the developers being inexperienced or lacking a budget or maybe even both. Several people in this thread have already proven that Unity is capable of producing AAA games.

People keep saying "AAA games" and I am guessing tha tis some kind of rating. What qualifies for that rating?
