Sound bug - checkpoint 5 (no monster sounds)

As the title suggests, I am getting a wierd bug when I load from checkpoint 5 and I dont hear any monster sounds at all. I hear the music and the weapon sound effects, but none of the monsters. It makes it really difficult because you cant hear the heavy footsteps etc which lets you know they are coming - they just pop out from around a shipping container and BAM (or sometimes from behind and I dont even see what killed me) :(

Anyone else getting this bug? I tried restarting the game and restarting SteamVR but to no effect. I loaded checkpoint 4 just to check and the sound was working fine (including monster sound).
