Patch 1.05 - De-shrimplifying combat Stage 3

Greetings Shrimpers

SHRIMP abilities are now manually activated whenever you like while off cooldown*.These abilities are on 55 second cooldowns in campaign due to their power, and around 30 second cooldowns in PvP. They are on cooldown by default when you spawn, encouraging you to stay alive longer.

*note: Shrimple Steve and Feely's SHRIMP abilities still need to be triggered under certain conditions, like hovering over a weapon drop or having your RMB on cooldown respectively.

I'm making this change as I saw some players were wishing for "another button to press" to make things more interesting during combat. I also noticed many players would ignore these abilities all together / be confused by them when they proc'd passively.
This change aims to remedy that!

You'll be prompted when the ability comes off cooldown, and prompted with more emphasis when the game thinks it's a good time to activate your SHRIMP ability (like if you're Shrimpy and you're absorbing big XP orbs, or Beaky and you're very high up). But it's still up to you to choose when to activate them!

I'll listen to feedback on the change and tweak it accordingly (feel free to leave it in the Discussion Board or the Discord), as I assume it'll need some tweaking to feel 100% right.

And with these 3 phases of combat changes made:

Lesser exotic weapon drops from minibosses
Greater stat coefficient scailing for more tangible upgrade paths
And now manually activated SHRIMP abilities

I feel like gameplay is in a better place compared to launch.

I'll be turning my attention to campaign difficulty and replayability with harder difficulty settings and the like.

Critique

Game is so far so positive. It actually runs on my machine so that's a major win. However here are the issues I have found. I have my settings set at the lowest window setting possible. The UI is basically unreadable at this point. I could fullscreen this game but I don't own a graphics card so my frame rates would tank....

Patch 1.04 - De-shrimplifying combat Stage 2

As some hardcore krillers know, SHRIMP GAME started as a PvP only game, and as such the stats were originally balanced for quick frenetic ~10 minute games.

Things have changed. SHRIMP world will never be the same.

I have pushed an update to make all stats scale harder with new coefficients, meaning they should now be more discernable (with the exception of Firerate, Armor, and Acuity because they were fine).

For example: Upgrading to max Speed now makes you about twice as fast as a base SHRIMP. Zaggy players who love to dodge roll can now cover greater distances while mashing SHIFT. Beaky players can get higher than ever before. You get the gist!

The changes aren't extreme; you won't be able to make truly broken builds (yet (hint)) with stat upgrades alone, but things should feel a bit more noticeable while leveling your SHRIMPs to max.

Next patch I'll be taking a look at making racial passive abilities more engaging by re-tooling them to be active rather than proc passively. I should have something out on that this week or early next week.

Patch 1.04 also includes random bug fixes and tweaks including graphical glitch stuff.

Patch 1.03 - De-shrimplifying combat Stage 1

Hey SHRIMP nation

Thank you for all your support!

Over the coming weeks, I'm going to be slowly making changes to make combat feel more dynamic.

Many players haven't been utilizing the Weapon Shrines (the puzzle in Sunken Polis and the Backwaters where you use pearls to make exotic powerful weapons) as I intended, so today I'm releasing a patch where:

Minibosses now drop Exotic Weapons

Minibosses and sometimes other objectives now drop Exotic Weapon types like Mines, Carpet Bomb, Musket shot, Pancake shot, Seeker shot, etc. that you could otherwise create in Weapon Shrines.
These weapons overheat from repeated use and have their own cooldowns due to their power. It should make gameplay more interesting!

Note: These Exotic Weapon drops are of a lower rarity than the ones that are created in Weapon Shrines (their stats will be roughly on par with red-tier weapons). We can call them "Imperfect" Exotic Weapons. Shrine Exotics allow you to customize the stats of the weapon too, while these are random just like normal weapon drops. So the bringing pearls to the Shrines is still worth doing for those who want the most powerful SHRIMP!

I've also made some changes to campaign gameplay in this latest patch:

Lowered all RMB special cooldowns by 2 seconds
Lowered all Utility (F) special cooldowns by 1 second
Lowered RMB charge requirement from 60 frames -> 50 frames
Increased baseline SP gain from extracting from the campaign
Squid Lord and Omega Swordfish now spawn earlier in their levels (with slightly reduced HP)
A bunch of other QOL changes and options changes

This week I'm going to look at changing how SHRIMP racial abilities are used. At the moment many players ignore them sense they proc passively with certain triggers. They'll likely become their own activated ability instead.

Beyond that, I'll be getting the campaign ready for more difficulty modes to increase the feeling of stake in the game. Hopefully that can be implemented soon!

This game is Kriller! Its a 3rd person bullet hell 3Dspace-shooter as a shrimp. Several zones to explore with a hub area, fun story, good weapon variety, and lots of things to find/ side-quests. There are a variety of starting shrimp and an RPG system where you can level up your shrimp and build your arsenal of 3 weapons by finding them off of enemies you take out. There are different element synergies, all of which makes you want to experiment with all the different builds you can come up with. It has co-op, PvP, and the dev just mentioned a "hardcore campaign mode". Well worth the skrilla

Weapons and abilities don't carry over into the next stage, only the stats for your selected shrimp do.
Progression feels like its not there because of this. The weapon variety for pickup weapons feels lacking since all of them seem to be bullet weapons. Good additions could have been beams, pulse lasers, grenade launchers, etc.
Cool looking game though.

6 shrimps out of 10, could use some extra melted butter.
