Hint about what to do after Alchemy Lab

I could look up a walkthrough of course, but reviews repeatedly say that's unnecessary, and I only really need a nudge.

My farthest progress has been to open up the Berry and Chalice compartments.
I experimented and discovered that there are four potions to make:
1. Cyan berries - makes your vision warp strangely
2. White berries - you move in slow motion
3. Purple buds - you move at super speed
4. Orange fungus - you see quadruple

Nowhere I've explored stands out as a useful place to use any of them. Each of them only lasts a few seconds, and since you have to take a long run to get anywhere from the chalice station, trying to experiment with these things as a matter of trial and error seems more tedious than entertaining.

In addition, I have also discovered that you can use the bucket and spoon to fill the bucket full of sand and put it on the scale. However, this seems to do nothing, even checking after every spoonful. Nothing seems to go in the smaller bucket. EDIT: Sand goes in the smaller bucket. 1 spoonful in the small bucket does not outweigh the larger empty. But after there are two spoonfuls of sand in the small bucket, as long as the sand in the smaller one is +1 more than in the larger one, it balances.
